Whats your opinion of these guitars?
I play electric and have never owned an acoustic.

I would like something I can sit in the garden and play.
If I bought an acoustic I would buy an electric acoustic.
I would want to play to a limited degree the kind of stuff I play on an electric (I know its not altogether possible) but I would need something with a cutout so I could play up the neck a bit and a lowish action.
I have read that unplugged they sound sound thin and the quality isnt great. Setup issues I can sort out myself.

If you reckon the Fenders are k*k what would you recommend in the same or (moderately) higher price bracket?

All advice appreciated!! ?

I don't know what the price range is, but those don't look like good acoustics to me. They look like something that you can plug in on stage if you're a rocker and want to keep up appearances whilst you do the sensitive spot in your show.

Action is not that big an issue - a set up will sort that out. Bear in mind that at some point tone will be compromised if you go too light on the strings - that's likely to be more of an issue for you, I think.

If this at the not too expensive end of the price range then look at Cort or Tanglewood.

You sure you want electronics? If that's not such a priority, or if you don't mind fitting aftermarket electronics (which can be removed later on and transferred to another guitar) then the Taylor Big Baby is the best bargain around. If you get a well cared for 2nd hand example you'll get good guitaring bang for your buck (unless you want a blue burst with the tree of life up the fret board, in which case the Big Baby is NOT the guitar for you). No cutaway, but they don't have a big heel and the neck is real comfortable for most folks.
Cort MR710F for the win! Highly recommended, and brand new they are really reasonably priced. For a solid top acoustic guitar with a Fishman pickup system, you cant find a much better deal.
The acoustasonic and the stratacoustic are very different beasts. Materials, electronics, construction all very different.

So when getting opinions, reading reviews and so on be sure everybody involved understands that these are two very different guitars.
My advice if you are looking for an electro acoustic with a nice cut-away and a slim body with a decent pickup would be the Cort Sfx-5. I have one myself and she plays like a dream and sounds very sweet

Those do look nice. What sort of price bracket do the fall in?

Well I got mine from Paul Bothners a few years ago for R2700, so you should be able to get it now for around R3000... Solid sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides. Abalone inlays. Good bang for your buck
I would suggest Tanglewood over Cort and G-series (non japanese) Takamines.

I bought a OM from Tangewood's historic series for under R4k on a special (R6k retail), honestly it gets within 80% of the Martin OM-18 it copies. I enjoy it more than my 8-series Taylor at the moment.

Non-custom shop Corts all sound the same, generic and cheap.
I second the cort Mr710f, i have one and they are great.

                    Thanks for all the input!!
