Hi guys. Looking for some venues in the Northcliff / Randburg area. We're a 3-piece band, playing things like post-grunge, punk, alternative-rock sorta stuff, so definitely not background music.

We don't have much experience gigging, but we're really pulling our act together in rehearsals so we'd like to get out there. We know about Rumours, but were wondering about other places as well.

Suggestions?
O hagans at rock cottage have open mic nights on Tuesday nights...nice relaxed crowd who are enthusiastic ..... worth a look.

Corner house pub on witkoppen ......

fraid that's it as far as I know..not to many places for live music in randburg...
I'm also in this area and Rumours are your best bet, we have played a gig and another one comming up this weekend, it is good gigging practice with the Battles they have and stuff. What is your bands name, do you have a facebook or something I can check out?
+1 to Rumours. It's a cool place. They have open mic nights too.

The Bohemian (good place for anything alternative) is moving to the old Back2Basix venue in Auckland Park/ Westdene. That might be worth checking out too.

Edit: Try Amuse Cafe in Linden as well. Dirk is a cool guy to deal with and they've had everything from acoustic stuff to rowdy Folk-punk, instrumental rock and heavy proggy stuff there.

          cheers for good vegan food!!!!

Yes, O'Hagan's Rock Cottage on Tuesdays is a good place to start. Go one night and check it out, talk to the "house-band" and organize a slot for the following week. (They'll give you a 3-4 song slot max and you don't get paid at all)

Rumours is ok, but it's one of the worst rooms for sound that I have ever encountered. Everything "booms" in there. Owner's name is Fred. He's a nice accommodating type of fellow. (You'll probably get a slot of 1 half hour set on a night with 3-4 other bands and the bands will split the takings from the door. You can be chuffed if you cover your bar-bill with this money)

Cornerhouse only takes predominantly cover-bands and you have to do 3 sets of 45-50min each. You have to keep the punters happy with sing-a-long bollocks, get them drunk and dancing and keep the turnover going at the bar, otherwise you won't last long there. (Cornerhouse at least pays the bands. Expect anything from R1800-R3000 for a 3-piece depending on the night.)

I've played at Back2Basix only once very long ago, but if it's the same guys from the Bo' that's taken over, it will be easy to organize a spot there 'cos they only do door-deals.

Good to hear that Bohemians is going to survive, and that B2B figures into it. Two places I used to play a lot when in Uni.

Anyone know when Bo are opening there?

                Yup
the venue has already started work on the stage and sound for future music gigs - and a new pizza oven is also planned.

Please pop in if you get a chance - you will see the same familiar faces and be welcomed with open arms!

Burger specials running already. Not sure when gigs will start.
Thanks guys, this all helps a lot. Live music venues don't seem to be plentiful around here...

We're called Peavey Park. We do have a Facebook page, but we've had some band re-structuring recently so it's been a bit neglected. We will be getting it up and running again soon, with some decent quality recordings as well...
