  • Woohoo - moving back to Cape town soon!!!

I agree with everyone - JHB is not a bad place at all.

@Alan, I have the same feelings everytime I think about selling the GD20 as well... :-\

I plan on keeping a few pedals for acoustic and home use to go into an amp and the rest will go.

Forget Cape Town ! Come see Stellenbosch....the best town in the world ! ?
People get paid more money in Jo'burg than Cape Town ...

... because Cape Town holidays are expensive
        ? ?
Moved to cpt 2 years ago from jhb ' couldn't imagine living there again , I shudder even going for business trips there now . Cpt is unique you either love it or hate it
Ag no I think Cape Town is lekker. I like these quaint little towns.
Our mild summer breeze the ''sedoos'' takes a bit of getting used to, but not if you windsurf or kiteboard.

When I go back to jo'burg ... and there's no wind ... it feels as if things are dead.
Weirdly I've come to identify the wind as a "life force"
It is a life force, but there is wind, and then there is WIND.
Take a peek at Ray's neck of the woods, Stellenbosch, lots less wind, and it is quite quaint. [actually a very ''lekka joint''].
I had to travel in CT peak traffic while down on business for a week..
                    in winter too nogal..
it was great, left the hotel, and 10 minutes later (with highway peak traffic) got to the office..

try THAT here in jhb ??? :-\ ja freaking right!
I couldn't imagine ever living in JHB, CPT born and bred and feel really uneasy whenever I have to be in JHB and it's not often at all. I think the last time I was there was about 4 years ago and hated every minute of it.

Perhaps it's just the places I was in but everything always just seemed so grey.

Seriously it has the best climate in the country, not too hot, not too cold and it doesn't rain in winter.

But then again I am from Durban 8)
I like Joburg too, but I despise the crime-rate. It's my only really gnawing problem with living here, but it's a big one, for me personally.

I'd rather live at the coast, given the choice, but that's because I've lived here all my life (although I've traveled plenty) and still appreciate how cool it is to live near the sea ?

Enough of this JHB Bashing ?

If you were in JHB everything would seem so GREEN, because of all the trees we have.

Where I live it's full of colour, there is good weather all year round, the people are friendly, good music shops, good restuarants. The vibe and atmosphere is good stuff, obviously everything is a bit bigger and lot more crowded, but So is London, New York and any other major city.

And it's quite rich for me to be punting JHB as I come from Durban.

that's what JHB looks like today

Notice the GREENERY and trees. from the 22nd floor SABC Building looking north towards Randburg, Sandton etc

I know Cape Town is more picturesque and has an amazing vibe, and has great music venues, but JHB is not as bad as it's made out to be ?

... OK we have the Lions(Rugby Team) but our Cricket team is doing OK ?
To help Squonk's JHB defense, the one thing I always notice about Joburg is how friendly the people are.
If you're in a supermarket people will actually talk to you.
                              Quite disarming for a Capetonian.
                              ?
I was born in the Cape, matriculated in Pretoria, moved to Cape Town 1994, moved back in 2000 when I couldn't stand all the snobs. In Nov 2012 moved back to Cape Town because of family business...It's all about WHERE in the Cape you are. I'v come to love Paarl...mountains (the real ones) all round. People are friendly and helpfull. Crime not too heavy...have to admit though...seems to me the music scene is dead down here, but it might be me...
something to keep in mind, referring back to Squonks post..

Johannesburg is the biggest man made forest in the world!
http://www.jhbcityparks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=718:celebrate-joburgs-trees-&catid=1:latest&Itemid=56 wrote:JOHANNESBURG'S reputation as the biggest man-made forest in the world precedes it; with over 10 million trees throughout the city, it comes as no surprise that it holds this title. It will also come as no surprise, then, that Arbor Week is a big deal, especially for City Parks.
And so many of the trees arte invasive aliens. Bluegums, port jacksons, black wattle and so forth. Really no good.
I especially liked the fact that Squonk reminded us that the Lions was a rugby team! :roflmao:
You don't have to dress up to go to the shops in Cape Town.
                                        ?
