Heya boys and girls!
I'm suprisingly brave today, guess it comes with the mental issues, so I'll just spill it all.
Decided to ease off a little on big addiction (RC Models) and not compete as seriously anymore. I spent the last three odd years getting very serious in helicopter aerobatics, going to Poland for the World Champs last year and and and. Getting a little tired of all the time and money spent on that, partially also because I want to invest money into more serious channels sometime soon...buying a house and that sort of thing you know? So I'm turning my first love back into a hobby rather than full on sport. Going back to weekend flying and building the odd new model as spare cash burns a hole in my pocket.
Anyhooo...I want to get away from working on a helicopter every single night of the week and wanted something else to put into these time slots, of course with me it had to be something productive (Not just playing computer games, although I like that too). Got hooked on Guitar Heroes III a wee while back and so the itch came along to actually try my hand at a musical instrument again. When I reached Expert on GH3 with only 5 songs left from the game's entire list I can't get through two months ago (Still can't get through those). Me and the GF set off to find a music store, in another moment of insanity one saturday afternoon when the weather wasn't flying friendly.
I've been in touch with music most my life, playing the piano as a primate (pfft..bring on the flame, if you do I know you're quilty of same). High school I got into DJ'n and did that "pro" for a few years also with residencies all over the country, that all ended at Morgan's Cat in Randburg when that shut down and I moved to Pretoria to start a real job(Brave, told you). Anyways still got all my records, mixer and turntable blah blah..just don't find it fascinating anymore but I don't have the heart to sell any of it (Maybe there's still that little flame to fire it all up in the bedroom). Point of this though is I have a rather strangely broad love of music, even commercial nowadays. From funky house and old school house, which most my records are, to Rammstein, The Narrow and all the way through to the beatles etc. I have my pride though and there are some things just better kept away from me, like Abba. Favourite local...Theuns Jordaan! Yeah!
So yeah I'm Guitar Heroes kiddy turned to the real deal. Good guy Manie from Oosthavens in Pretoria helped me out first time around, some other folks I spoke to and started the convo off with "I play GH3" just seemed to lose interest at that point. Manie listened intently and I felt like he understood properly when I explained I don't know the difference between a string and a fret. He hooked me up with a custom starter pack as I didn't have much liking for the normal kit in a box stuff. Got myself a nice cheapy Yamaha with tremolo, gig bag, plecs, tuner, Line 6 10W Spider 3 Amp and off I went! Don't dare diss my Axe anyone, I sure as heck wasn't going to dump R20k into a guitar when I didn't know if I was even going to be able to play it nevermind like doing so.
I've been into this guitar thing now two months odd, working my way through the about.com online guitar lessons of Dan Gross and already past the initial hurting fingers stage. I still suck hopelessly. Takes me 3 minutes 53 seconds to fret a single Barre chord and another 2 minutes on top of that if you don't tell me on which number fret it is and only give me the note. I can't play any solo's. I can barely fingerpick my way through REM - Everybody hurts. But still, I try to spend half an hour every night with the guitar in hand and always end up sitting there 2~3 hours instead. Hitting the odd notes on songs ranging from Tom Petty (From the lessons, now loving this stuff!) to Nirvana to Three doors down all the way through to that Perry chick's I kissed a girl song. I can only play 2 songs in my entire list of 30 songs properly and I don't give a darn....when the eyes start focusing on the fret board to help guide the fingers my mind tells me I rock (Besides, Guitar Heroes told me so too!).
I'm a quiet guy, and refuse to post on forums when I'm in a bad mood. So if I ever say something, please know I said it with a smile on my face. ?
All my friends call me Spacey (But the nick was already taken here).
So that's me in a nutshell. Hallo everyone!

Edit: Terrible typo on the Amp model. Sawwy

Rudolf
Daaang you guys are fast!?! If I was half as fast changing chords my mates'd be calling me Eric? Yes yes you guessed it, before I die I'd love to be able to play Eric Clapton's - Layla half decent. 8)
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I like this place already. I'm an active forum user on the RC side and never experienced this to date no.
MikeM: Nitro in the fridge is just...wrong! Nitro's meant to be burned! It's like fitting a new set of Elixirs and not touching the guitar for 5 months. I can't show off my guitar skills like you big guns on here but I sure can display my nitro burning skills. ? ?
Here's a little clip of my other love:

Squonk: Admitting you're insane is the first step to finding the Matrix?!? ?
Lawrence: Please be patient with me. Hehe. Not exactly the fastest learner on this planet. But yes I'm already abusing the forum's bandwidth trying to figure out if my GF should get the Ibanez she wants and if I can get an all round pedal setup without breaking the bank.

Welcome aboard man! I'm sure the okes will get you up to speed in no time, be prepared though, it ain't easy, but if you continue practicing like you are now I'm sure you'll do great. I also started on the lessons on about.com.
Don't worry too much about the speed when changing chords, the more you play em the faster you can switch to them. At the moment you probably need to think how you need to place your fingers, later on they seem to go there all on their own.
Enjoy your stay, and don't be afraid to ask questions, these okes don't have jobs and they just troll the forum all day ?
Sean
Hey welcome man, enjoyed the intro. Remember, just keep at it, it gets easier.

Welcome, I'm new here too! And i also the r/c flying thing although it has taken a backseat of late. I never got into helis though i enjoy planes more! ?
Rudolf
Thanks guys! Thanks so much. ? ?
IanB: Nice nice! Just as long as you never ever sell all your models, if you don't already know. It's one of those hobbies that always get back into the bloodstream somehow. I dabble in a bit of both to be honest, got around 26 planes all shapes and sizes and the 4 helicopters. Hehehe...yeah addict.
CDee
Welcome, enjoy the forum.

It's not so much how well you can play as wether or not you're improving.
Rudolf
Rud, what's up!!!
Well, last night it was rather large but not hairy and still ridiculously ugly spider on the ceiling? I aint skeeered though, fired up my best attempt at Nirvana's Smells like teen spirit! That little sucker ran.....boy oh boy did he run! I think he caught the mutts outside by surprise though, heard them howling at something towards the end of the tune. ???

Was it one of those Rainspider things?
