Cheesy as hell, over acted but thats done on purpose to portray the stage production i suspect....

I think Tom Cruise deserves at least an oscar nomination for supporting actor for this..

full top notch cast of alec baldwin, russel brand , catehrine zeta jones et al....

my only beef , i was expecting a harder soundtrack but enjoyable nonetheless
The only good acting Tom Cruise has ever done was Tropic Thunder.

      Yeah right. :?

I agree, he played that role so well, I only realised it was him at the end of the movie...

I disagree. His performance in Tropic Thunder was amateurish compared to his performance on Oprah's couch. That was his singular best acting ever. ?

? The couch was good, but he wasn't half bad in Collateral

What about born on the 4th of July
LOL. How to migrate a thread from discussion on a guitar-related movie to discussion on the acting abilities of Tom Cruise.

But if we're going to discuss Tom Cruise and his acting, we can be all the haters we want, there's no denying that he is a very good actor with some big accolades under his belt.

As much as I dislike him, I'd have to admit that he played excellent roles in Magnolia, The Last Samurai, A Few Good Men, Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maguire, Minority Report, and probably a good list of other movies that I didn't see.
He-he, ja look he's no Malkovich, not even a Pitt, but Top Gun and Cocktail were among my favourite movies as a young lad. :-[
Funnily enough me and the missus were talking about him and his split from Katie Holmes recently and somehow we ended up on how short he is. ??? I had to google it to convince her that her teenage dreams of Tall Tom sweeping her up n his arms were a little , uhm, short of reality ?

After their split, Nicole simply said..Now I can wear heels...

Deef you're right, discussing whether he can act or not, is like discussing whether Kurt can sing or not....fact remains, his bank balance proves me wrong every time...

I kinda liked the Mission Impossibles and the missus says her favourite is Far and Away...so, guess that means...the $'s have it...

I'm not sure I'd agree with that analogy but let's not derail the thread even further ?

I thought the movie was pretty cool. Enjoyed it... the funniest part tho was where Alec starts singing to the other dude...lol
Was Good Stuff and Tom was incredible in that roll, Oscar nomination I agree.

I generally enjoy "music based" movies... prob because I would love to be on stage rocking out as a career... lol... I even enjoyed hairspray.. a little ?

What rubbish. Should have been called ' Glam Rock of Ages'. Reminded me of High school Musical. The few decent songs featured were butchered. And Cruise overdid it, again.

I don't think you quite got the film. It was an over the top spoof type movie. It wasn't meant to be serious... It was good stuff
