Are the slots 15 minutes, or was that just a Warhol reference?
    Serious question.
Generally 15 minutes or three songs. But have another prepared just in case
Can one play electric guitar and as a duo or is a one man acoustic thing only?

          ...Andy Warhol looks a scream
          Hang him on my wall
          Andy Warhol, Silver Screen
Can't tell them apart at all...

The usual set up at TJs for open mic night is two vocal mics and two leads into the PA for guitars or whatever else. Duos are OK, and there's been trios before.

Sets are 15 minutes or three songs. whichever comes first. If the night is not too heavily subscribed or they're running ahead of time then you may get a bit more time.

You don't HAVE to play the full 15 minutes. Some people just play one song and sit down again. That's OK.

Electrics are problematic. TJs don't provide back line amps, the PA in use for open mic nights is a small one and easily overwhelmed by an electric, and shuffling them on and off of the playing area can take up time that they don't have when the night is heavily subscribed. So be prepared to just plug into the PA or bring an acoustic as well.

              No backtracks!
I'll check, maybe we can play a song or three acoustically, just need to get acoustics and I'm not sure if my bandmate has one. We are both electric players but we probably wont be ready soon, but as soon as we are, I'd love to come and play. Is this every week/month/now and again?

Last Thursday of the month, every month except December. You could come along and watch and see what goes on.

I don't know. There'll be an announcement closer to the time. I don't sit on the committee that runs TJ's and thus am not privy to the schedules etc.

The MC doesn't make a big difference at an open mic night. The guys who walk through the door and ask to play make the evening.

                        may drop in.
Any GFSA'ers planning to go? or play?
It looks like I won't be able to make this one although I'm still gonna try to shuffle my plans around. Won't be playing though but I'll keep an eye out for you if I do swing by.

And bass straight into the PA? I would imagine that wouldn't be a problem - 1 acoustic, 1 bass, vocals.

Maybe. I still need to see how a couple of other things unravel.
I'll be there. Just watching. Friends of mine are playing (one of them's a bass playing forumite)

I didn't take any. Anyone else go? Didn't recognise anyone.
