I would so be there if I lived in CT! 8)
Yeah, take control of your tone.

Anybody interested should book a.s.a.p. I need to bring the correct amount of kits in from USA. The cabinets are handmade and take some time to make. Any other amp models you guys would like to see in the workshop?

Next workshop is in JHB. Check link above.
I'd love to get a Bassman, but yea heavily over budget at this stage. How about bringing in some REALLY basic kits for cheapish?
        I am working on a 12AX7 + EL84 kit without the chassis.
Karel, have you considered using the Ceriatone kits instead of the Mojo ones? Quite a difference in price. Or even put one together yourself?

Would this by any chance be with a 5751 P.I.? ?

That sounds more in my price range! Please let us know when you have a price on these.

Which Dumble? ? Just about every single one is different as Dumble built them specifically for players - and often for a specific guitar owned by that player.
                Here is some Dumble info

                http://www.schematicheaven.com/dumble.htm

This type of stuff is best to leave till you have a bit of experience building high gain amps - some tricky oscillation problems are everywhere.

If I wanted tone heaven, I would look at really old style amps like Old Bassman using those black metal octal pre-amp tubes (6N7, 6SJ7, 6SL7, 6SN7). Some of them have pentodes on the input - great for merciless overdrive (use a VOX fuzz/wha or some Vintage Big Muff etc. to overdrive the amp). Obviously, If you do not want to get evicted, start with the old Champ circuit. Lots of good sonics to be appreciated there.

Otherwise there is the AX84 project on the internet. Most of those amps are a good starting point before you clone the Dumble.

I just call him Dumble, makes it easier (like Calling Carlos simply Carlos, without having to get embroiled in the whole Walter/Wendy thing ?).
somewhere along the line a pattern emerged of which Dumble model would make most financial sense to clone. I think it's safe to say the Overdrive Special is that one.
That makes a lot of sense. I know a lot of people who pay good money for a s/h Steel String Singer are ultimately disappointed as they don't give up their goodies to just anyone - it takes a real hard player (like SRV) to get them to really talk.

That YT clip is real nice - tone to die for, good player with excellent control. Is he playing louder than it the tone would suggest, or is that amp just singing? Bugger! Now you've done it! : adds Overdrive Special clone to wishlist :
Oh my word... Now that is what I call tone!!! *drool*
I thought Trainwreck was the holy grail...

                        4 Mr Mars & MJJJ:

How many watts were each of those amps in the 2 clips ?

I have a ECC83 + EL84 (a bit like VOX AC4) kit ready. Custom designed transformers. Contact me for details.
