  • TJ'S - June 21st (the midwinter special)

There will be heaters in place to help cope with the solsticial chills. As usual there'll be plenty of parking, and drinks and pub grub available.

The lineup will include
  • Shannon Hope
  • The Swamp Dogs (Dax & Richard from Them Particles)
  • String Symmetry (Conrad of GFSA's band) Unfortunately Conrad, a true gentleman, has had to cancel due to some very bad news he has received. A pity as he was preparing something unique for this show. I'm looking for replacements and hope to make an announcement soon.
  • ShreddySmurf
Host is X-rated bob.

Admission: R25
Date: Thursday, June 21st
Time: Music starts at 20:00
Venue: Marks Park club, Judith Road, Emmarentia, Johannesburg
    I am so there. If ShreddySmurf is on the bill, it's enough reason already but Shannon Hope looks very interesting. Will she be playing piano or guitar?

      She'll be the sole piano player in a mostly guitar-driven lineup. When I say "guitar"... one of the performers is going to arrive with a metal object that looks pretty much like a guitar, that he will lay flat on his lap and do things to with a piece of steel. So it depends on your definitions. ?

        Hey cool! I don't know "Them Particles" but could there be any link between the Richard mentioned and a certain music store in Jan Smuts Ave?

        Now I'm really looking forward to this night. Anybody else? Shall we fill a GFSA table again?

          Yep! It's that Richard.

            OK... the lineup will be
            • Shannon Hope
            • The Swamp Dogs
            • Gil Hockmann
            • ShreddySmurf (not his real name)
            • The Solstice Sisterhood
            There will be big-ass gas heaters to keep the seasonal chills at bay, plus a lot of good music coming from that stage. Lots of secure parking. Bar service. Pub grub. Admission a trifling R25.

              So those of us with big asses will be sorted. ?
                Ama bump bump. Any other GFSA'ers?

                  I'm really tempted, will speak to the wife.
                    A delicate BUMP

                    Quite a good lineup tonight.

                      Unsurprisingly, I will be there. I'll be glad to say "hi" to any GFSAers that come along, and I hope lots of you do, but once the show gets going I won't have a lot of time to be sociable as I have to keep an eye on the time, hunt performers down, tell them when they're on and when to tune up etc etc.

                      But yes, this is a good line up if I do say so myself - great value for a measly twenty five bucks.

                      If you look for the guy with the gaudiest footware then you'll find ShreddySmurf ?
                        The GFSA roll call...
                        * Costafonix
                        * ShreddySmurf
                        * Deeftes
                        * Squonk
                        * Fingerpicker
                        * X-rated Bob

                        Anybody else snuck in without introducing themselves...
                          Great evening, well done Bob & Warren on your performances, good to meet Deefstes. Let's see if we can round up a huge GFSA crowd for the future ones ?
                            Costa, where were you sitting?
                              I got more time than usual to actually sit and listen. Wow! Some great sets.

                              Big thanks to the various performers, to all the people who make the show happen without being on stage - and especially the hard working technical team of Bill and Graham. And big thanks to an attentive, responsive audience. Gil Hockman was thrilled to play somewhere with good sound AND an audience that actually paid him attention.

                              Deefstes took some photos, and I hope we see some of those soon.

                              Quite a night. We got to the venue and there was water all over the place. A tap had jammed open in one of the toilets. That made carrying the equipment in a riskier than usual proposition, and there was a delay whilst the Marks Park staff mopped up. So we were late with the sound checks. Of course I was wearing crocs so that any GFSAers would recognise me (the things I do for you guys), but they were a liability in such slippery conditions, so I had to call Mrs X-rated and ask her to bring something a little more rugged.

                              All of you out Pretoria way... Shannon Hope is playing at the Parks Acoustic show at the Voortrekker Monument on Sunday afternoon. Go see her! Guy Buttery is on the bill too. A fine way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

                                Hey Squonk,
                                I was sitting on the left of the sound desk in the corner,
                                You were on the stage jamming when I left so I didn't want to disturb you because you were clearly 'in the zone'. ?
                                  Wish I was there, but I got some work that had to be done by today, damn.
