  • Elixir strings in Jo'burg???

Hi all,

Anybody know a store in this good city that has Elixirs in stock? The useful gauges? I've been trying to buy PB 12 Nanonwebs, but everywhere I go (and it's been like this for a while now) it's the same story: "We're waiting for the distributor to let us have some."

i normally find music mate in sandton sometimes has, although fourways carries more stock i find - and of course andy always used to have ☹ . also try marshall and music connection in randburg...

    good luck bob

I was at Music Connection today, no luck. I want to leave my Morgan there for some work, but to do that diligently they require a new set of the strings I usually use...
Wasn't Andy the local distributor? Did anyone else pick up the agency?
no clue i'm afraid. i'll pop him a mail and find out.
Hmm, I tried to get 11's from music connection about 4 weeks ago, but they were out. They did have 12's though. Odd that they're still waiting for stock
Tried marshall music? Give em a call.
                They always have.. o_O
Andy lost the Elixir agency some time before his store closed.

Lovemore's in Illovo? Where are they? If they're in Illovo they must be a chip and a putt from our offices but I've never seen them. Sounds like I've got some exploring to do.

                            They're in the Thrupps center.

indeed they do, but never in the gauges I need. also they don't have the polyweb last time I looked.

Well three weeks later and still no strings. Elixir are not very good at replying to their emails either - or are just passing them on to the clowns that are supposed to be doing the distribution.

                                A poor show.
This topic just makes me realise how many many many music stores there are in the greater Jhb region...
And how many, many, many of then dont have Elixir strings. >☹ >☹ >☹

Right I am only going to say this one more time:-

                                    http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/

No affiliation, but have had great service from them.

I know what it says about "only available in the US" at the foot of the Elixir page but everytime I have ordered them they turn up at the Post Office without any problems.

They have a great selection of different makes as well.

Do a quick conversion on the prices from Obamabacks to Zumabucks and even with shipping and VAT if the PO decide to charge it and the handling fee they are still a bargain.

AND its like my wife tells me when she goes shopping "the more you spend, the more you save!!!!!!!!"
                                    ?

                                      Thanks for the tips, guys.

Because of the ever worsening availability of Elixirs I have built up a small stash, and I took a set out of that for Jed at MC to use when setting up the Morgan (it's in for a re-fret, and will need setting up after that). But the stash won't last forever, and the way I built it up was that when MC could get Elixirs I bought more than I actually needed before they sold out and sat without Elixirs for a while. So replenishing the stash is also a hit and miss affair.

I may go the order route, but I'd rather agitate to get a reliable local supply. The win situation is for the strings to be as readily available as other good brands.

I've mailed Elixir in the USA (and I know other disgruntled persons who have) but they're not bothering to respond to emails and also not kicking the local distributor into action. ???

I see on their site for shipping they say:
USPS International Shipping **, 5-10 days, $14.95 up to 10 items/sets; *$6.00 will be added for each additional 10 items/sets **Shipping amount may be increased further for larger or heavier items. Strings and Beyond will not be held responsible for any local customs taxes or import duties which may be charged at the time of delivery.

USPS Priority Mail International Shipping, 5-7 business days, $24.95 up to 10 items/sets; *$6.00 will be added for each additional 10 items/sets * Shipping amount may be increased further for larger or heavier items. Strings and Beyond will not be held responsible for any local customs taxes or import duties which may be charged at the time of delivery.

**Orders to the following countries will be automatically upgraded to USPS Priority Mail International:
Brazil, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, China, Greece
Does this mean you pay the Internation Shipping price and get the Priority Mail International Shipping or does this mean you have to pay for Priority?
