  • We need a ROCK radio station in Cape Town urgently!!!!

Thanks!!!

Would it be a hassle to start a radio station?
I think that one would need money to pay music rights ?

I'll go and look into it.
Isn't it quit a mission to get a licence to broadcast?

      LOL ?

        SAMRO...............yes it is
Getting a license from ICASA and getting bandwidth allocated is ten times more difficult than dealing with SAMRO. I know a group of guys that have been waiting about eight years for the go-ahead on a a sports radio station.

Would the same red tape apply to somebody who wanted to do podcasts?
Not AFAIK - It's all to do with the available radio bands, not Internet related stuff.
IS their some kind of special radio i can buy that will pick up joburg radio stations?

Or even a radio that can pick up internet radio stations? that will be awesome.
Some time ago a DSTV guy tuned my decoder to receive a few radio stations not normally available on the DSTV music channel - Jakaranda for instance, and a few others. Unfortunately, when a software upgrade was done these tunings disappeared. I'm not sure how he did it, or even whether it was legal, but that might be worth investigating.
they were the free to air channels , that the stores use . i used to have the codes , but you can't put them on the decoders any more , as dstv has blocked them (stingy gits) .

                      Cool bands I have found:
                      Black Stone Cherry
Damn Right! They are smooth Southern Rockers based on Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin, what could be better! 8)

I've recently stumbled upon an AWESOME radio station (internet radio station) based in Greece! Its WELL worth a listen if you like all kinds of Rock (anything from 80's rocky pop to electro rock and everything in between!) Here's the link:

                      http://www.rockradio.gr/

Does anyone know how I could get my hands on an International Radio Tuner... I would LOVE to listen to this station everyday, but it chows bandwidth (without you knowing it, like all streamed audio).

As far as SA radio stations go, plainly put, I don't listen to the radio at all {not by choice}... which is why i enjoy working at Look & Listen (cause I get to buy the music I WANT to listen to ANYTIME I want!) If anyone is planning to start a damn needed Rock station in CPT, I'm IN {whether it be for DJ purposes or just to help with the promo} 8) Woop!!
What about these new Iphones? can you pick up radio stations with them?

                          5 months later
                          Guess what great news!!!
