  • $104 (R802) for 24 packs of D'addario .10s. Would you?

As the title says. Sick of paying through the nose for strings (just spent R80 on an emergency purchase of Ernie Balls). Bulk purchase from: http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/

D'addario nickel .10s are my preferred string. I know there's the 25 pack but I don't want unsealed strings when I go for varying lengths of time between changing - maybe as long as 6 weeks. You guys think this is a good deal?
    Yep...

I do the same, just buy a box of Dean Markley Blue Steels and when I'm down to 2 or 3 packs start the importing process on another one. It's lots of output at once but if you keep them in a relatively dry place and sealed they will last, heck you can ziplock the things if you must. The hassle of hoping your local store will actually have stock of your brand and gauge simply isn't worth it and I like to stay in my comfort zone ?
Where do you buy from, Chad? Think this deal is decent?
Yup. I have done it. Got a stack of Roto Yellows at home ?

I normally go with Juststrings.com - they stock singles and sets (which I need cause Dean Markley don't do a seven string pack with a low B in a gauge I agree with).

Your deal works out to being R34 a pack, that's a great price I'd recon, as I said it's lots of money now but you'll make a saving in the long run - shipping costs are an issue but if that's factored in to your price then it's an excellent deal. Not much can really go wrong with strings, and they don't really have an expiration date either so I think there's really not much risk provided you know you're in contact with a dependable international retailer.

On a side note you can buy strings directly from La Belle as well I believe, you'd have to buy their strings but I've heard lots of good things about that brand and they support everything up to 9 strings and have lots of very interesting/high tech winds and manufacturing techniques ?

Nice! Generally if I'm in a pinch and can't get my blue steels I'll go with Rotos, lovely strings ?
Cool. Shipping included, so I think I'll go for it.

              John there gives great service.
just make sure you buy from a recognised dealer... there were "fake" d'addario strings which were on the market here in pta ....... knockoffs are out there....... i've seen a set and they would fool me.............and i been a d'addario user for years ........ still am........ i'll only buy from stores i know get direct from the official supplier
So without doing the sums and all I'm wondering if this is so good. I get a box (10) of PB lights for R500 local. what's more I throw in some mediums (so mix it up a bit in the box) for when I'm feeling strong. And electric are cheaper so I wonder.

                    It's more expensive.
Looks like some good prices there Singe.

I've been struggling to find stock of the Daddario strings that I use so this couldn't have come at a better time - and a day or so before pay day too ?

1 x 10 pack of Daddario strings would cost me USD 34.95 + USD 24.95 for shipping. So basically just under USD 6.00 for a set i.e. +-R47.00 per set. A helluva lot cheaper than locally :?

What's the deal though with import taxes and VAT etc? Does anyone have an idea of what you would get charged for this?

Would it be worth it in the end?

I smell a group buy if the import taxes etc. aren't too hectic 8)

if the import tax is fair than definatly.
Couldnt find 10's in 2 of the 3 music shops i frequent last week so a group buy sounds killer.
call it 1k for 24 sets and your set for a year at less than half you'd spend in store.
Yes! I recon its more than worth it.

Most I've ever ordered at once though is a 10 pack... but that was from takealot (take2). I just put all the string packs in my wishlist and then I get a mail when its on special... think it worked out to around R35 a pack!
