This is the Last challenge of the year so voting will close on the 16 December 2011. Only three of the ten entries indicate what category they in so I will let you be the judge . Each member has three votes so if you honest you can decide on your favourite beginner, intermediate and advance or say too hell with it and vote for your favourite 3 entries regardless of category.
This one is called the theatre of horror. I was going through stuff when I wrote this. I really hope you guys like it. I know its really rough but thats what metal is all about :P http://www.box.net/s/7h0nrcn93uin0hthjdkq

Here's my entry, sending it a bit early because I'm off to Cape Town tomorrow! This piece was inspired by Threat Signal's new album (which is beyond amazing). For guitars I used the x50 amp with guitarhack impulses, TS-808 and EQ. Drums I used EZDrummer pop/rock kit but layered the kick and snare with Andy Sneap samples. Slot me in the intermediate category please. http://www.box.com/s/1t1tlq3fknub9erkp2zz Cheers, and good luck to everybody!

Right, went a little different on this one compared to my normal routine. What we have is ONE guitar and a drummer. Talk about band commitment, pffft... bassists and vocalists... pffft. Hope you enjoy it. http://www.box.com/s/z1ex7i4ign2tk3op5ede

Hey. Attached is my entry to the Challenge. Rather early than forget, I guess :) http://www.box.com/s/oy4m3r5f1n3sgsax9mgr My mic quality, combined with the fact that I'm actually no metalhead, made sure that this actually came out more like hard rock than metal... Oh well, if I get one vote that would be great for a first shot :)

Here is my entry for November. I am concerned some folks have very slow internet so I made two choices...... a 128kbps mp3 at about 2.1MB and a .Wav at roughly 34MB as I recall. Please decide which file will be best for the members as I do not know what sort of internet problems there are there. This is the MP3 http://soundcloud.com/highway-chile/machinegunistan-128-mp3 And the .Wav http://soundcloud.com/highway-chile/machinegunistan-wav Thanks.

"There once was this goat, who ran away from home, got adopted by a man they call the mountain king, he is pretty epic, he lives on a mountain, and likes reverb, this is rare recorded material of the goat shredding the guitar and his master ripping it out on the drums............the bassist remains a mystery" http://soundcloud.com/manfredmusic/manfred-klose-the-epic-goat its uploaded on soundcloud so you can listen to it on there, or click on the download button to download it. its very rough and a bit dodgy haha.......and i might have abused to compression a little bit......

Here's my entry for this month's challenge. What a ride! I don't know the first thing about metal and, considering the rigorous debate it always evokes, I wouldn't be surprised if some don't even consider this metal :) At any rate, it was fun to try to apply myself well outside of my comfort zone. I didn't have the tools to add vocals but I hope the unbridled anger and erruption of hate over the fact that my swimming pool is green and the ineptitude of my useless Kreepy Krauly is evident from the music :D http://www.box.com/s/jz2fa21lsfoadhx93ggc

So here is my entry, I'm normally entering category A so gooi it there. http://www.box.com/s/pvxoa7axj5sy6sqrqmu5 Not much of a mix but it is there.

Here is my entry. Taken from the bands new song. Simple. Me on guitars. Epi Goth explorer>Zoom 505II>Marshall JCM 900. I culled it from one of the new songs on our new album which we recorded last week. http://www.box.com/s/p7ratcokb2vojjyzzzy9

And here it is!! After you hear me count 1-2-3-4 prepare to have your face melted :D Dual guitar to make it sound heavy. And I recorded the guitar and vocals at the same time to same time which worked out well. The songs called "Molten Hate" http://www.box.com/s/khdfeyt6df9zidvseq87

http://www.box.com/s/d5kfgiya6glltvl8r2be Our band's name is "Heed The Word". This song's name is "First Light" since it's the first song to see the light of day outside my small home studio and our cars :) Although it's not a full "band" and we're just two guitarist, and we most unfortunately don't have a vocalist yet, we believe that there is enough attitude, character and melody in our material that it will definitely still make a person want to headbang and enjoy it just as much!

Ok, I went for an Old School metal track, I was trying to get an early 90's death metal kind of sound out of it, I also tried to do some rythym changes and break downs too. If anybody has any comments or pointers and tips, feel free to share :) It's 2 guitar tracks, 1 bass guitar track, 1 drum track and a Solo Track (5 in all) I'll stick my neck out and go intermediate this month. :o http://www.box.net/s/rys0o4nx2lcn8jj7xbxy
hi Rene, looks like you left mine out?
Busy downloading but it's a freaking nightmare ?

Can you amend the rules to include that contestants put their names in title eg. Squonk-The ripper is on tonight.mp3, just makes it so much easier to discern who is who after downloading
        Busy downloading, looks good guys!

Kept mine extra short, 'cos I don't want to bore you awesome people with my mediocre playing and recording techniques ?

Squonk, don't most of the sites have the name of the composer that uploaded it? Just under the name of the track it gives the uploader's name...

The file you submit has the title that you called it, in your case you called the it Beat up.mp3, just name it Vellaj-Beat up.mp3 and then post it, makes it a lot easier for the downloadees ?
Good stuff so far, very high standards indeed.
Turns out I was waaay outa m depth... ?

Awesome guys! Ill be voting a bit later on. Good luck all!

Oh and stu, hope you're playing that at TJ's tonight ?
Yeah Stu, is that the Anti Metal Song? ?
Stu's song Molten Hate downloads but nothing happens.
I loved the groovemongers.... you know who you are ? ... will vote a little later on. Well done guys ?
Good entries all around. My favourite is Hammeron's... you definitely captured the essence of the theme! Your tone was a lil fizzy for my liking though. Maybe a bit of EQ here and there would make it sound a lot better.

@ Highway - I dig your use of voices of passion. I often browse the EastWest website with much longing, but that stuff is way too expensive for me ☹

B1scu1t I think your dropbox link it broken, I'm just getting 'webpage unavailable'.
Only 4 votes so far? ??? C'mon people. These guys made tons of effort.

Love b1scu1t's number. Really impressive and engaging guitar playing. Tamla's was great too. Always original and keeping you listening. I actually really liked the gritty fuzz tone type sound on that. Good work all round though.
singemonkey wrote: Only 4 votes so far? ??? C'mon people. These guys made tons of effort.
Yes. There's a lot of effort gone into these entries.

I do second Squonk's point, and there is actually a blanket rule for competition entries to do with naming of files. Not just a rule for the sake of a rule, but because it makes it easier for people who download the entries and want to listen to them several times. If your name is in the file name then they know who they're listening to and that makes it easier to vote.

I tended to favour tightness above sheer chops. I think it's very important in this genre. The rhythmic aspect is quite important sometimes quite complex, so any sloppiness in time keeping is going to really hit hard.

Some nice ideas here. Nice to see that metal doesn't HAVE to be about anger and hatred and screaming in the face of the world.

Ok, I did your poll damnet, now go do this one.

Bump for G-Man. Hi Rene, let's get that puppy up there fast so he doesn't lose any more ground in the voting.

Awesome turnout guys. Thanks for making such a hard run at my topic for this month. I had a feeling it would resonate with some of you, but not as much as it did. At one point I was starting to feel confident about mine, felt like I had a good groove going but WOW......... there are several tracks up here that are just super. I reckon it comes down to it being the genre you play all the time and you can tell who is really doing it a lot....the experience there.

Farking phenomenal, you metal-head freaks!!!!! ?

Again, thanks for taking my topic seriously.....very nice of you folks to turn out in such great numbers and for putting your heart and soul into it as much as you did. Win or not, you should all be very proud of yourselves, and your submission.

                              Best of luck to all.

                              Oh Rene-eeeeeee................. ? ?

Just skipped thru them and man you guys kick seven sorts let me tell you!

Cool, thanks dude ? It most certainly has been a while. It only happened cos I changed strings and let a low note ring while tuning, lol. Dig your entry dude and good to hear your stuff again ?
