Just wanted to know if there are any fellow forum members that suffer from guitar mouth. After every gig, jam or practice I always have someone commenting on my weird facial expressions.
The problem is 10 fold when using my Wah. ?
I completely have this problem, and I completely don't care, it's better to just get lost in it ?

I think out of all the musicians I admire Dave Martone suffers from the best form of guitar face ?

I wish I could be that awesome ?

I also think if I were ever in an audience watching him and he pulled that awesome face at me I'd pull it back at him 8) cause it's awesome 8)
Our drummer has serious face pulling issues ?

As far as guitar goes, it can only help those notes:

It shouldn't be something out of your control though. Guitar face hasn't been around as long as guitar players. It's a performance device to engage the audience and emphasise your guitar playing. If your guitar face is turning people off, change it.

I think it's cooler to just go with it ? I even find myself pulling guitar faces when listening to music, there's just something about hearing a perfectly bent note that makes you open your mouth or clench your jaw a little ?
Haha! Yip, although its sort of under control now, but my wife, then my girlfriend, always used to struggle to contain her laughter when I played cos I always pulled the same funny face

What if it's a guitar body?
Mark Tremonti has a bad case of this...

                  Yeah +1.

John Mayer looks like a moron when playing, but that doesn't take away from some great, emotive music.

Who cares? Just go with it. The only time I find myself pulling crazy guitar faces is with the wah pedal on, there's something about the vocal "wah" "wah" sound that makes my face twist.
It's quite possible that "just being you" can make everyone think you're a joke. That's not an advantage. Better to be a different kind of you then. Like I say, this isn't a totally natural thing, otherwise guitar players would always have done it. And they haven't.

In fact, you can look at Jimmy Page before Marc Bolan and after Marc Bolan. Before, he does a lot of smiling and rocking out '50s guitar player style. After Marc Bolan he does a lot more strutting and pouting (coincidence?). This is not a natural thing any more than wearing, say, spazzy footwear is a natural thing. It's a part of your performance and you can shape it if it turns out you're naturally crap at it.

As for John Meyer, not just the face, but if he does anything other than just sing and play guitar invisibly, I will turn it off immediately. His guitar playing is amazing. That's good because he has a lot to make up for.

I sense a repressed man-crush on Mayer. It's cool dude, we won't judge you if you want him as a life partner.
I too have some interesting expressions... BUT THIS GUY... It P'd me off SOOOO much! Found it while looking for some nice clips!

                          Here's a question though: who invented guitar-face?

The jazz guys didn't do it. The early blues guys didn't. Early guitar rockers like Eddie Cochrane and Buddy Holly didn't do it. Even Pete Townsend didn't. Clapton certainly didn't in the sixties. In fact, Hendrix is the first guy I can think of. But did he come up with it, or was he copying someone else?

I had to stop watching... ???

Little Richard (and maybe Jerry Lee, but he actually played with Rich)

THAT IS COPYING SOMEONE! I've also seen Guthry's face... He does it because he sings the notes in his head ... The guy in the video looks like a nutcase retard!

                                  So did Jimi.

Hmmm Little Richard seems to be the link. :-\
I used to purse my lips subconsciously when simply strumming the acoustic. ? People laughed...

I must be honest and I don't get these guys who look like they're having 3 orgasms at once when they strum a major chord. Like, check out the face on the dude who demos the Night Train:

That right there is my guitar face.
This was taken at a gig last night. ???
