  • Open mic night in Jo'burg - TJ's August 25

The club provide mics and the PA. It's an acoustic club - drum kits, electric guitar amps etc are not provided nor can be accomodated.

Performance slots are 15 minutes or 3 songs.

Where: Press Club bar, Marks Park sports club, Judith Road, Emmarentia
Time: Music starts at 20:00, last act goes on at 22:15.
Admisson: R25

Drinks and hot meals available.

This is a friendly and encouraging venue, a smaller, less intimidating room than TJs use for their other events. The audience are supportive too.

You know you want to....
Open mics are great fun. And to copy what Bob put on my open mic thread.

O bother! Once again I have other responsibilities for that evening. Are these open mic nights every last Thursday of the month? I'll try to keep my diary open for Sep 29 if that is the case.

To the rest. Go, it's fun!

        Yes. Except for December.

OK... I've decided to work up some songs, toodle off to Marks Park on Thursday evening and put my name down. Any more takers?
Let's hear it for the audience! We're into the 6th set and so far 3 sets have been original material and even a lot of the covers haven't been well known material (yours truly did a song by Nick Lowe) and they've given all of this a great deal of respect and appreciation and they LISTENED. Fab!
              Any other GFSA'ers in attendance?
Well one never knows for sure, but I think it's just Fingerpicker & me.
Good stuff Bob. Really enjoy your version of Beeswing.

Use your imagination. It was a bunch of people taking it in turns at playing acoustic guitars.

Same old same old for me, jeans, shirt, Morgan, crocs....

There was actually an interesting axe there, a Ramirez flamenco model - all spruce and heck of loud.
I note that this is becoming a popular event. All slots have been signed up every open mic night this year so far. People coming from the East rand to perform. Audience numbers are up too.
