Here are the entries to the Music Moods challenge. Please vote on or before the 31 May 2011
I managed to slap together something for this month's challenge last night. Drum track, two guitars, a sample or two and lots of Audacity later, here's what I came up with. I worked on scenario one (but I suppose the song should give that away anyway). http://www.box.net/shared/lz6c58gd6d

I decided to do a solo classical guitar piece... always a challenge for me... got to be so damned accurate. Mic'd up my Cort nylon, no electrics. http://www.box.net/shared/i907i9m52u

Here we go... Simple acoustic piece with some volume swells with my piezos to get that "strings" sound. Just slammed something together in about an hour. Could do more with more time! Entering under the folks that lost a kid. http://www.box.net/shared/kcq06fucyr

Here is my entry. I am entering under Advanced and for the 2nd choice. The David and Rene losing their daughter and getting the news from the doctor. http://soundcloud.com/highway-chile/bad-news

http://www.box.net/shared/fdfq8evv98 I have chosen topic/theme 1. I tried making new sounds by only using guitar, so be on the look out for them, and try guess exactly what it is I am trying to do. Im actually quite proud of myself. But I also fused a bit of different genre's in this one. Great fun.

Here is my weekly comp entry (Beginner Category). I went for option 2 with the story about David and Rebecca. More a reflective song of them slowly taking in the news and looking back on Caylee's life. Recorded in Cubase and used Battery 3 for percussion, Takamine for acoustic, Squiers Classic vibe Telecaster for lead picking and EPI LES Paul through Guitar Rig for Bass as my bass guitar gave up on me ::) Vote me for a better life for all :P http://www.box.net/shared/1cd27mthmu

Here is the link to my clip. I am entering it in category 2. I wrote a while back when I was 13. So we go with Beginner. Sorry it is too long. If I had the software I would have shortened it. It's pretty obvious where it needs to be clipped. It's me on the Epi explorer playing thru my Zoom 30w modelling amp. a little echo added to the final mix. http://www.box.net/shared/loy2mg5pt7 Sorry to mess you round like this. I think I should withdraw my entry. The fact that it was recorded 3 years ago does not sit well will some forumites, I get this, sometimes honesty is not the best policy! It is also too long, just over 2 minutes. If I could have cut it down it would have been perfect, and shorter, of course. But I was not aware that this could be done without the original, before it was too late. Anyway, there will always be a next time. yea? Wink

Vegas theme but clearly set in the 80s! Also really sorry about the ending guys, I just didn't get to the toilet in time.... http://www.box.net/shared/z61usqlhy4
Haven't listened to the entries yet, will do that tonight, but congrats TI Distribution :applause: :applause: You're the winner of the (B) category ?

Looking forward to hearing the other entries.
Great entries guys, just finished listening to them now.

Couldn't enter this month, crazy work stuff (blah blah blah) maybe next time.
Man that is totally whacked......I wrote David and RENE. I specifically remember spelling out Rebecca in my head as I typed, trying to remember if it was -ecca or -eckah. How the heck did I think Rebecca in my head and Rene get's typed by my fingers? ? :-[ No weed or alcohol involved.... LOL!!!

Anyway, some nice entry's folks. Not only from a playing and composition standpoint but also the quality of the recordings.

? yep not much competition in the B category this time. Unfortunately the only other entry in beginner from Hammeron was pulled ☹

Now we need someone to analyse the entries so we can learn out of it! Alan you there? 8)

The entries sound really good - well done ALL!

No Worries HC I think the Pakalolo I've been er..thinking about must have got into your fingers by telepathic osmosis
Just got round to listening and voting, TI Distribution was one of my favourite regardless of category maybe next challenge you should enter at least the Intermediate category. ?
I actually thought there would be more entries this month which is a shame but overall all the entries were really good.

Some initial thoughts on first listen:

PeteM - Really enjoyed the piece

Highway Chile - I was most intrigued to hear yours and I feel you both pitched it right and nailed it overall! Good stuff.

                TI - Beginner my arse!!

But all were very good. I need to have another listen before casting my votes!
                  Nice guys!!
Well done! Very much to the challenge ideals hey!

                  My personal fav's...

TI Distribution: B. I was hooked! Very nice!
Deefstes: I. I could envisage the setting so damn well! Really enjoyed that!
Dingwall: A. The ending wasnt a problem for me! i really liked your track as well!!
Ok. These were probably some of the best entries I have heard, and my vote has been casted. Some crits and comps time.

Now just to be clear, when I was 'judging' obviously being a bit biased myself, I was looking for entries where a distinct storyline could be heard. A good few of you just went straight to the end of the story, so despite your tracks being excellent I feel I could not vote for you.

Deefstes - The added car ignition in the beginning was excellent, definitely boosted you up IMO, however you only emphasized the highway scene, I would of liked to hear how your song got to that.

Pete - You chose the 2nd topic right? If so I could hear it so so so clearly. And what made me even more envious is how you did it with one guitar (beautiful sound by the way). Those chords you chose, and when you crawled down the chromatic scale, I could feel the tension. Won my Vote.

Jacques - Beautiful piece, reminded me a little of the titanic song, haha, Category 2 can be heard, however, I also wanted to feel how it got to that point. It kinda just jumped to the sadness, there was happiness before the sadness.

Highway Chile - Very interesting, also very disonant which I liked, synth was a great touch. I could hear this would fit in after the couple lost the baby. However for the same reason outlined above, I did not vote for you.

TI Distribution - For a beginner you sure play well. Great piece, enjoyed every minute of it, you deserve to win your category, haha. But also be aware that there was no progression in your song.

Dingwell - Such a Good good entry. One of my favourites, you hit the nail on the head with the 80's theme, but for the same reason as listed above, you just landed on the highway and I wanted to hear the music before then. And also you where in my category so I was a little biased with the voting ?
Less entries but more competition this time around! Some serious talent! But also with less entries I am excited to get some advice as hopefuly the pros will crit us a little! Thanx to FruitarGeek who already gave some useful insight!

I knew my piece would not really cut it, I spent too little time composing and really thinking it over! But I decided to rather enter something than nothing... Ths past month was just too hectic!

BTW I got engaged last night folkes!!

Thanks you guys, I appreciate it.

In the end I "entered" somewhat reluctantly and not really to "compete". My original composition was way more structured and thought out. It started with an evolving motion synth patch based around a heartbeat that increased in tempo and then a sinister drone was introduced with a spanish guitar at first playing a neutral mood melody. Then a plodding rhythmic beat came in and finally a whammy guitar drenched in reverb way back in the mix and finally everything faded to it going out on the heartbeat again.

The idea was to illustrate the duality in David's faith in the chaos of receiving devastating news...... the pounding heart and sinister drone reflecting David's fear as he sees the doctor walking towards and starting to deliver the bad news. The lighter mood of the spanish guitar is meant to show his peace with the Almighty-she is out of pain and fear, he knows she is with Him. The plodding heavy beat meant to show how he is just being pounded down. The whammy guitar-lot's of distorted dive bombs and lot's of reverb, writhing inside him like a snake, intense hatred and evil, the Devil trying to take his soul....meant to represent David's anger at God for taking her, turmoil, ......finally the heartbeat.......

You know...the idea was to show the chaos the mind goes into under severe stress.......but I was worried about it containing too many synths......3 patches......so I did not finish it.

This one I just threw in for fun, just to be a part of it. I also sensed there were not many entry's.

I also was basing my part around the chaos of stress though....'cos that is how I see it......when you go into an almost timeless state and stuff is whooshing around in your head, pieces of information having clarity, others lost in the prop wash of anguish.

But it was fun and I am glad I participated. Good luck to everyone- the entry's were great.

Hey Jacques, I did not see your post....congratulations on getting engaged. Wishing you all the very best with that. How'd you propose?
Some very good entries this month

Last chance to vote. Only 19 so far compared to 35 from last month

Have a go you never know
                                Hey congrats Jacquesg4j!!

On the subject, I got married last year on the condition that I would get a new guitar out of it. That was the only condition (been married before blah blah blah). Anyway we are 7 months down the line and there is no guitar anywhere in sight! I did kind of spring the wedding on her and hadn't really considered where the money would come from but hey ho the boy dreams on...
