I play Hard Rock Heavy metal.

What is the best of the following 2 amps for me:
JCM 600 full valve Marshall 2 x 12" Celestions 60w
or
JCM 900 Full valve Marshall 2 x 12" Celestions 100w

Both going for close on the same price.
More power is more loud before distortion comes out of the amp. Less is more, even for Hard and Heavy.
I vote the JCM 600, but that's my personal preference. I'm not a fan of the JCM 900's!
I'd go with the 900, but some people consider the 900 heresy next to the 800 so maybe following the same logic the 600 would be better? I for some strange reason prefer the 900...and the 2000 really...
I would choose the JCM 900. not because its 100watt, but its better than the 600 and more reliable.

The jcm800 is a complete different animal again ?

i have owned and still do own the a jcm600.

for the style of music you are playing, you just need to slam a tube screamer, boss ds-1, boss sd-1 or anything that can lift the gain abit.
these amps already have enough gain, but by just adding a overdrive pedal infront of the drive channel can really open up the amp for metal.

edit: chad beat me to it.

+ 1 to the 900 - NB: I've heard some great 900's, and some that sound like a jar of bees ...
Power valve swap-outs definitely help on this amp - and if 100 watts seems a bit much for
you, you can always have a guy like Mr Mars mod it down to 50 watts for you (which is still
            PLENTY loud)

a TSL 60 watt could do the trick for you (depending on what power/speaker config your heart is set on)
The 900 spoken of here is swithable to 50W btw... and to make it interesting I just droped the price down to R4000... I bought something today and now need the cash!!

Honestly to me that's an absolute steal...Seriously it's good stuff and from what I understand they are reliable ?
And switchable to 50W, sounds like we have a verdict ?
I've had this for 2 years and it has never let me down! Have to sell this as soon as possible now... AND YES I'M RIPPING MYSELF OFF!! But I found what I was looking for... The perfect voice for that Parker of mine!
Buy Jacques's 900. Not only can you drop it to 50W, and it's recommended by others independently, and cheap as old boots, but buying from an active forum member means no nasty surprises (except in rare, and dramatic circumstances).

Yeah, you can't beat that deal, wow! I would buy this amp too if I hadn't just bought one!

The only reason I've said I don't like the 900 is because I played it right next to an 800, a little unfair to do, i know.. ?

                          +1 to this ?

Please DON'T plug your own classified items in the general forum. That's what the classifieds forum is for (plus there you are protected from someone telling everyone else if they feel it is rubbish, overpriced, etc., which you are not on the general forum).

Since I'm pretty certain this is aimed at me, I was just trying to be helpful to the originator of this topic, because I thought it would be a nice type of amp for her, whether she bought mine, someone elses, or a new one from the shop. It wasn't my intention to "plug" my own classified ad. My amp will sell or trade when it does and I'm in no big hurry to get rid of it, and well even if it doesn't I don't really care. Nevertheless, if there is a rule somewhere that explicitly prohibits what I did, I apologise and won't do it again.

Also, thanks for your concern, but I don't really need any protection from anyone else if they feel it is rubbish, overpriced etc. Quite the contrary, I am a not one of the over-sensitive types, and actually appreciate honest opinions and feedback, however blunt they may be.

                                ?

No - just a general trend I want to head off before it becomes more serious, not just limited to this thread or your post. That's why it was public - if I had a serious problem with your post(s), I would have deleted them and PM'd you.

You're still welcome to PM the OP if you think your item is what they are looking for, but I'd rather keep it away from the general forum. Special rules apply to classifieds, so it might skew how people will respond. Other people may also still mention a classified item in a thread. I'll update the rules in this regard.

The rules are there for everyone. ? You might not care, but others will, and we can't keep tabs of who cares and who doesn't.

                                    Hi Alan,

Thanks for clarifying. Just one final point on this though, and something you may want to consider in light of the recent ruling regarding others commenting in people's classified ads. Mention was made somewhere in that whole discussion that commenting or critism is not allowed in the ad itself, but that this could take place in the general forums.

By me linking to my own classified ad in a discussion topic in one of the general forums, I intentionly invited comment or even criticism of my own ad, within the context of the discussion topic. The OP had said she was looking at a JCM600 and a JCM900, and by my post, I intended to put forward a JCM2000 as another option she possibly hadn't considered, and was quite happy for people to comment or even criticise, otherwise I wouldn't have done it.

To me, there is merit and value to that within the context of a discussion, and hopefully this isn't something that is outlawed.
