Is Dweezil covering Frank.....?
So I've finally decided who I really want to see live
........or is it a tribute? ?
Tribute. He plays FZ songs almost exclusively and gets them pretty much spot on.
Id like to see Jimi and Stevie Ray Alive again maybe they can Voodoo Chile (unexpected return) - hey it's Easter I can dream too ???
You remember the '60 something German dude at Pakalolo with the long hair and the goatee? He saw Jimi at a festival in Northern Germany the week before he died. ?Renesongs wrote: Id like to see Jimi and Stevie Ray Alive again maybe they can Voodoo Chile (unexpected return) - hey it's Easter I can dream too ???
Luck comes in many forms Stevie-Rene.
I saw Wishbone Ash, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Crosby Stills & Nash 30 years too late. :-[
By now they're "hasbeens" and I have no enthusiasm to see more (forget about Neil Diamond or the Beach Boys my great fear is that they might collapse on stage)
Far better it was seeing Crowded House, Counting Crows and Live while they were still popular.
Even if more of the old timers were to tour Cape Town now I might opt out. :-\

I agree in most instances but I think Deep Purple are still rocking, haven't seen them for about 5 years but the other times I have seen them with Steve Morse have been pretty good shows that could have taught some 'younger bands' a thing or two!DaFiz wrote: I saw Wishbone Ash, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Crosby Stills & Nash 30 years too late. :-[

I have seen both Zappa's......Frank in 1981 at Indiana University with Steve Vai on guitar and Chad Wackerman on drums. Killer concert. I'll never forget when he walked up to the edge of the stage and next thing he pointed right at me...and said "You're an asshole!" In the next split second my mind was racing because I did not know the song. I was wondering what I did that he called me an asshole...did I look at him funny or what? I had not been in the State's long.......less than 3 months...LOL!!! Then of course he pointed to someone else and called them an asshole and so on.......
I've met Dweezil.......can't remember where and I just saw the ZPZ concert.....they opened for Jeff Beck at the Staples Center. Jeff was doing the band with the backing orchestra thing.

Great story! ?Highway Chile wrote: I have seen both Zappa's......Frank in 1981 at Indiana University with Steve Vai on guitar and Chad Wackerman on drums. Killer concert. Your enthusiasm for Jeff Beck does Symphony overflows the page...
You know I don't see any correlation between age and vitality or age and excellence. I've seen several acts not in the first flush of youth who put on great shows - tight playing, great chops, passion, well executed etc. A while back I posted a clip of a re-united Led Zeppelin performing on Jools Holland's show - wow!DaFiz wrote: I saw Wishbone Ash, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Crosby Stills & Nash 30 years too late. :-[

I think there may be a problem for bands that placed a lot of emphasis on their image because you there are more lines on the face, the hair recedes and quite frankly some antics are a bit hard to take seriously once the performers get past a certain age.
Voices drop as well with the male artists. Plant doesn't wail in the way he used to, but I'd still go see him if I got the chance - and I wouldn't spend much time thinking about it either. I see Bowie on TV from time to time and there's no disputing that he's singing in a lower range than he used to, but he still seems pretty interesting, always has a great band with him - he doesn't do the Thin White Duke bit anymore, but he was always a restless kind of artist.
I wouldn't expect Bowie or Plant to do a greatest hits type show, but what I see and the reviews I read make it clear that they haven't turned their back on their history either.
A lack of new material may have something to do with it too. If you've been churning out the same old songs in the same old way for 20 years it must start to show. Some acts do phone it in or just seem to be their own tribute band (eg the Beach Boys), but it's not a given.
Maybe that's the thing - are the creative juices still flowing? With some guys the dry patch starts very early on, others just go and go and go.
