Okay... where to begin...

Everybody post up your favourite top 5 guitar solos (not necessarily in order)
Format: Artist/band name - song (and a reason, if you want)

woop!

okay (in no particular order):
1. Europe - Final Countdown (its just a pure and clean solo that still kicks ass even today)
2. Metallica - Master of puppets (i just love the way it carries the melody on, and the build up of tension at the end of the solo)
3. Guns 'n Roses - Sweet Child 'O mine (its Slash... what more can I say ?)
4. Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (that man knows how to lay it down!)
5. Judas Priest - Painkiller (its just such and awesome song with a solo to match!)

Alrighty... your turn!
hmmm...ok well my top 5 have some new stuff in aswell

    1) Trivium - Drowned and Torn Asunder (love the solo trading to harmony solo)
    2) Metallica - Master of Puppets (it's Metallica,enough said)
    3) Pantera - Walk (love the sound)
    4) Guns n' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (i love Slash's style 8))
    5) Dream Theater - Beyond this Life (John Petrucci is legend)

so those are my favourite solos...i actually have a lot more ?,but i had to try narrow it down to 5
Awesome choices! ? Trivium and great, technical solos go together like milk and cookies
        * Matt Bellamy (Muse) - Hysteria - I love the way Matt manages to incorporate the song's main tempo and feeling into his solo's.
        * Matt Bellamy (Muse) yes, again ? - Invincible - Simple, elegant, powerful. Most awesome thing I've ever seen live.
        * Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Comfortably Numb, specifically the second solo - This song does not need a reason.
        * Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold)- Seize The Day - Fits in great with the song, manages to convey the songs emotion's that little bit extra.
        * Jimmy Page (Led Zep) - Dazed and Confused - Probably one of, if not the one, favourite song of mine...!
Most awesome thing I've ever seen live.
I agree fully! Seeing Muse live was the best day of my life! even managed to bring a lil tear to my eye ?
Where did u see em? (CokeFest 4 me)

Great selection! Extra kudos for listing Judas Priest! But I think my fave solo from them has to be from "Beyond the realms of death".

I'm such a Judas freak, it's not funny. They just seem to hit all the right buttons for me. Man I'd love to see them live!
Most of the solo's I am picking is not in my genre, but it is still awesome

                      TOTO - hold the line
                      Eagles - Hotel California
Europe - Final countdown (Me aswell) ( I always air guitar along with this one even though i can play it ? )
Avenged sevenfold - Bat country ( I really hope their legit. See my general discussions post)
Ozzy - Mr Crowley (almost all the songs with Rhandy on guitar)

Judas Priest are legends in my books! Have you heard their new album yet (Nostradamus)?
Its a pretty epic album [in the way in which it chronologically tells Nostradamus's life story through out the album, theres a song for all his trials and tribulations] Some people think their new album is a waste, but I like it alot. ?

Totally awesome! Man Lukather kicks ass!

Sadly I haven't heard it yet! Need to scrape together some cash and buy some new albums! (Like the new Metallica, of course)

I remember the days when it was 2-5 new albums a month. Sometimes 10 in a single day. Then I got married ? (Actually, then I got a credit card!)
TOTO is awesome indeed... as is Boston
Blue Oyster Cult has some awesome artistic noodling going on [not to mention the rad cow bell ?] Legendary!

I have the opposite problem... seems I work at good old Look & Listen CW, I buy LOADS! Just got the new Metallica album, waiting anxiously for the new AC DC {Black Ice} album and the Uriah Heep {Wake the Sleeper} album... eee! cant wait to give em a listen! ?
Pity staff discount is so lousy...
Boston Rocks! Brad Delp was a master. Don't look back will always do it for me ?
While whe are talking about Boston. I love the solo on "piece of mind" aswell!!!
"More than a feeling" is still a happy-go-lucky tune, and the solo seems so effortless, like it just flows.
Only 5? Maaaaaan that's tough, near impossible but let me try ?

                                      1) Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien
                                      2) Joe Satriani - Always With You, Always With Me
                                      3) Queen / Brian May - Killer Queen
                                      4) Steve Vai - For The Love Of God
