anyone know of any companies renting out valve amps to studios in cape town ?

i know this is a common thing in america and UK.

but dont know if there is sound rental companies around here doing it.

Not that I know of. I don't think there are enough studios at that level to make it a viable business. Ideally you should also be able to hire high end mics, preamps and compressors from a good studio hire company. <sigh>

i usealy borrow a friends amp if i am looking for a specific tone (i've got a lot of friends with cool gear)

the low wattage blues valve amp is easy to get.
its those high gain mothers that are a bit more difficult to get.

i'll contact a few sound hire companies, cause i have seen some mesa boogies and stuff being used as backline amps.

Most of the big backline places are in Joburg, the 2 big ones here are Gearhouse & Eastern Acoustics. EA will hire out amps, but mainly Fenders, but a couple DR Z's, GH has the MESA stuff. Over the years I've connected with various players/artists/owners so I pool for them, plus I own a couple vintage amps myself like the Blackface Fender, AC30 and my Tweed, which covers a lot of 'classic' ground.

Alan, EA rent out mics, compressors and pres, all high end: API, Universal Audio etc, they have an extensive collection.
