  • madame zingara show ..currently in jhb soon in dbn

i had an unexpected invite to the madame zingara show last night ( since i had a night off my shows) by a friend of mine who is in the show....... and wow what a fabulous night out ......

if you don't know the concept .it's a variety dinner theatre production .........with everything from fab motown from the renown trio and sometines quartet 3 ton's of fun .....incredible harmonies, then a rapper ben caesar is thrown into the mix along with comedian cathy spesific and then some amazing trapese/acrobatic shows.the entire show is high drama and fabulous...... and best of all... it's been playing to full houses continously on it's run .last night a tuesday was packed to capacity with about 400 people and of course being dinner theatre .theres a meal included in the price.

it's pure fantasy / carnival atmosphere and everything is housed in a big top tent at melrose arch ....... the waiters all dress up in fantasy gear and so do the punters (audience) it's the most fun one can have with your clothes on..... if you have not seen it it's hard to explain but it's worth every cent of the admission fee.........

but what impressed me most was the show was world class ...as in great sound and i mean thumping sound but not ever hurting ones ears.......the sound guys got it so so right ........ the vocal mix's were great and the show is super slick ......... so +100000000 for the production crew...and the acts are all diverse ....and all leave your jaw hanging on the ground with what they do...... the closest i can explain it's very circus soleil ( hope i spelt that right ) the acts are beyond belief and riveting not to mention the amazing costumes.....

well the appeal for me is seeing that so much can be done with dinner theatre...... and in this production it was absolutely world class from the performers down to the lighting to the sound ..... so a great example of HOW to put on a production and amazingly they don't overdo the gear ...... but everything is used to perfection ........i was expecting a lesser show than what i experienced...... and highly recommend it to anyone........ as the appeal is across the board..

unfortunately no live band .... but the way the production is fully booked every show and sold out in advance all the time i'm sure it won't be long till they can afford to bring in the orchestra/band ?

i really had a fun evening .....

and why i posted this here .apart from spreading the word it's a kick arse show.is that as performers and entertainers this production is a lesson to us all in what the new SA standard is becoming .....and as i mentioned they did a lot with a little . the acts were all duo or solo and the stage small the lights simple and not an oversized sound system but what they did with it was spectacular and especialy the sound was incredible so definitely a lesson to be learnt on how to deliver a product /production

I was lucky enough to see the show in Cape Town.
Stunning entertainment - would love to do it again
Going to see the show later this month. Really looking forward to it.
+1000: also saw the show in CT. It was magnificent, not least because you are in the tent and essentially part of the show.
VERY good date night thing to do.

We went to see it last night. What an absolute thrill! Really enjoyed it tremendously. Apart from it being extremely entertaining, I thought it was very well polished.

Jeez, I'll definitely go see them again some time.

I saw the show at Monte Casino a few weeks back. It was thoroughly entertaining and the food was superb.

Definitely something to do, although not really a family affair.

How amazing is that crew that serves, what, 300 people all in a matter of minutes? They make it look like fun the way they're dancing through the tables with the plates and stuff but I was seriously impressed with the speed at which everyone was served starters, then all the tables were cleared, then rinse and repeat for the main course and again for desert.

True. I'd have liked to take my mom or the parents in law as I think they'd enjoy this concept of a show and a dinner interwoven into one but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable sitting around a table with them while Cathy Specific muses over "her" lack of a penis...
i saw the show a good while back - when it was ending its run at melrose arch. man, what a fun evening. we did it for a colleague/slash/friend's birthday party, and got a little dressed up, she also brought along a bag of extra dress-up goodies to add to the occasion. i must say, the food was superb, and i was amazed at the service. there was always someone around to fill up a wine glass, get a fresh tequila from, etc, never mind, as deefstes said, how fast they got all the food out to everyone.

the show was awesome. i'd do it again in a heartbeat.
