Hi,

I have a korg ampworks interface/amp sim (thanks Mr M) which does a good enough job of getting a recordeable sound, especially when I use it with headphones, but unfortunately my laptop doesn't have a line-in (only a mic). It is possible to use the mic in, but it sounds a lot crappier compared to how it sounds over plain headphones from the interface. Is there a cheap solution to getting a line-in to usb connection? or something else that I'm missing? Some kind of small DI unit? I don't really know anything about DI's but they're for converting line-in level signals to mic-level signals?

need to get down to some 160bpm blues ?
Try using the mic on the lappy but make sure any mic boost or mic auto adjust settings are disabled. Play around with different mic volume levels as well. These settings should be accessible in windows volume control or the sound card settings
The esoteric device you are seeking is known by the name "USB Audio Interface". ?
If you just need a stereo line in you can get some reasonably priced options from M-Audio, Edirol, ESI or Behringer. Even the Behringer will improve your sound quality hugely over the internal soundcard in your laptop.
        Hi

I bought the behringer interface and it works very well, comes with a bunch of software as well. about R400

that behringer looks like what i need, will just have to get a 1/4" to RCA cable... thanks ?
