Hey Guys
So I am seriously planning to get SOMETHING with which I can record to my PC, because I want to take my songwriting a little more seriously now.
So I am thinking, I have noticed that various pieces of gear nowadays offer a USB connection or something to your PC and I can always do with another pedal of sorts, I do need a little practice amp, etc etc....
What would you guys advise based on your experience? Is there a specific pedal, POD, amp or something to go for, or should I stick to a dedicated interface that just does its job and does it good and if so which one?
Any and all input will be gladly accepted.
Cheers for now

Hi,
I bought an m-audio fast track pro audio interface 2nd hand from a guy adversting on junkmail a little while ago, I am really happy with it.
There are often second hand audio interfaces going on junkmail at reasonable prices.

Have you had a look at the new Fender G-dec3 yet? I am absolutely loving mine.

thanks guys, but only two, differing opinions doesn't help me much so far....
Please, I need more people's input here.
Thanks

By all means, get a POD or something for recording guitars and practice. Limits you to recording guitars if you use it as an interface though. The Avid (formerly Digidesign) Eleven Rack works as a quality 8-IN 8-OUT Protools interface (via digital) and has two line ins and a quality mic input built in. It's a bit limited on effects though, when compared to the competition, and you'll need amplification and speakers to use it live.
The advantage of a dedicated interface is that it lets you record other instruments too. You're limited only by the software you use (and even the bundled or free software is pretty damn capable these days), so things can be as simple or complex as you want. You get good ones from Edirol and M-Audio that feature mic and line inputs as well as MIDI and drivers are never a problem (especially with Roland/Edirol). ESI have a decent lower priced range worth looking at on a budget.
The third option is a portable recorder from Boss, Zoom, Fostex, et. al. Many of these have drums and fx built in, which make them ideal for songwriting.

only reading your post now, but looks like i did alright then...
Went to my local shop this morning to check out what options they had available and ended up getting an m-audio fast track usb for free... Yes this happens often (refer to my free TC Polytune).
The mic input is not working, but they know i'll probably be able to fix it and they can do nothing with it as is so therefor free to me.
Only had time to hook it up to the PC and get it detected by windows, will check it out properly tomorrow.
Thanks for the input.
