Hi All

My names Chris (Imaginitive nick I know - fail!).

Ive decided to start playing.... or more accuratly decided to start learning to play and now need the gear........and the advice.....(please).

Ive read a few of the topics around gear and have definetly decided to go for a second hand setup initialy (where possible), my main problem comes in that im a lefty and am battling to find some variety of choice out there (second hand = 0). So chances are ill be hitting a few of the lefties up for some advice if thats ok (will post a thread in due course).

Im from the eastern cape originally but living in Johannesburg. Will be bugging you all shortly with much needed advice ?

Thanks all

Chris
Welcome Chris ? You'll find loads of support here.

I'd recommend getting a decent cheap right handed guitar and having it setup for a lefty ala hendrix. That way you also get a full setup on the guitar which makes a massive difference. Yea it won't be as comfy but hey many great lefties have done it.

I'd also try to spend more money on a decent amp as that makes a big impact on your sound.
      Hi Chris - welcome.
Welcome Chris. If you're just starting out, why not learn right handed anyway?

Unless it's too late but you end up using both hands so orientation doesn't matter much to most music instruments.
I'm assuming that you want to play electric, but I could be wrong. Electrics and classical acoustics are going to be the easiest to convert to LH. However there are south-paw guitars out there.

You may have to put up with "upside down" controls, but it worked for Jimi Hendrix.

There are people who are left-handed but play right. There are people who are right-handed but play left (Paul McCartney). There are LH players who take a RH guitar and play it upside down. Plenty of options.

            I think that's a brilliant suggestion!
Just think of all the choices you'll have in equipment !!
Hello Chris, and welcome to the GFSA.......... another lefty? ?

Well everyone mentions Jimi Hendrix, certainly the most influential and mind-blowing guitarist for me anyway.

Thanks for the swift welcome all.

Unfortunatly im going to be embracing by leftism of this one and dont plan on going alla-hendrix. When I pick up a guitar it just feels natural going left and if I reverse a right all the knobbly knobs seem to be in the way and the guitars are just not comfortable.

                  Hi Chris,
