Interesting notion, Rene. Did they try to do something together? In my view, where John was at circa Sweatband with Dieter, etc was just miles apart [stylistically, image, attitude, etc] from where the Cohens were at the time of, eg, Bright Blue. Tom Fox was just so suited to the music of Bright Blue (little musical tapestries, faux township sound) that I have difficulty imaging John in a band with them. But on paper, I agree with the idea. They certainly knew how to take themselves forward to that level.Renesongs wrote: I introduced John Mair to the Cohen brothers, Peter and Ian ,(not the film makes). They I often speculate that had John stuck it out with Peter and Ian he would have been catapulted into the international circuit. For those who don't know the Cohen's played in The Borlains, Bright Blue, The Pressure Cookies, and Peter is the Drummer for Freshly Ground. ?
PS: I've read about, but not yet heard, the Pressure Cookies. That's Ian Cohen with Heather Mac (ex Ellamental), right? Sounds like a great combination, but I'm always gigging on the odd nights I see one of their gigs advertised.
PS2: Did you ever meet Deon du Plessis (later of Toxic Shame), who was a close friend of John's in the later years? Deon is another great guitarist I had a lot of time for. Hectic Ace Frehley and Steely Dan fan (I have the same weird taste), who also has the most incredible vocal range I had ever heard. Cool musician. I have this great memory of Deon, myself and Greg Schoeman (ex The Sunshines) standing in front of a turntable (remember those?? ?) in the early hours of one morning after a gig all three simultaneously, and spontaneously, shouting / singing "Is there gas in the car? Is there gas in the the car???" with Kid Charlemagne blasting out and the neighbours banging on the dividing wall!! LOL ? That's the Dan for you, I guess ... ?
