The ultimate fuzz thread

MIKA-the-better-one · 2010-08-13T12:28:20+00:00

This thread hopefully should just be added to..... it can be where people can check out all types of fuzz's........ post videos of there favourite etc etc...... Fuzz faces, tone benders, Fuzz factories........ you name it I have also found there are so many fuzz's out there built by so many each sounds so great...... firstly what is the difference between a fuzz face, tone bender, suppa bender etc etc??? I have the basic concept down but perhaps someone can explain it further. To kick off this hopefully enjoyable thread here is a kinda rundown of some different fuzz's Thats a fuzz I like.... quite a bit

Sean

Okay, okay, okay. I have an assignment deadline tomorrow, so I thought I'd spend time downloading more videos from this thread to see what this fuzz is all about.

My conclusion for now?I must say I need to be a little more discerning when it comes to listening to music. I think I'm a lazy listener, in fact, I know I am :-[ because I've stated this on the forum somewhere else before. I've basically lumped overdrive, distortion and fuzz into one box at some point in the past and have never taken the time to really distinguish what is what :-[

Having now listened to most of the videos posted in this thread, I'm now suffering from some serious audio fatigue ( I suppose using the cheapest pc speakers available which I bought 6 years ago does not help; with the fatigue or trying to develop an ear for tone and effects ). I've saved them though, so will listen to them again some other time.

Got an mxr fuzz 108 today, wo its cool with my dls......... my worry was it would be to low gain, and that was a major "not"

this thing is intense.... and great............. and the guitar comes through nice...........

Mr-M

Congrats on the new fuzz MIKA! Enjoy! 8)

BTW, we should have a jam sometime soon.

Vick

Iv only seen vids of the 108...never played with it in person...but the vids were impressive...
A big plus over the fuzz face is the buffer switch?

Congrats man

MIKA-the-better-one

after jamming it a bit, I dont even use the buffer..... i put fuzz at 3 o clock volume at 1 o clock and in sounds great..... I still want a tone bender ish fuzz now :/

Soundwave breakdown is cool, just the name makes me think of breakdancing and rappers......

I think iv seen the scematic for the soundwave break down on freestompbox......you could get sumone to build you one......

MIKA-the-better-one

the sad thing is, I have made neough enemies on gfsa that all talented builders will probably load the pedal up with anthrax, or an IED. >☹ >☹ >☹

The fuzz gun for me, is just to much........ the SWBD is just cooool, its that whole twon knob fuzz thing again..... I swing that way............. I cant believe you are selling a desaster fuzz, although i am selling a blue box ☹

Read this interview with Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2010/Aug/Future_Blues_The_Black_Keys_Dan_Auerbach.aspx

From what I gather (page 2) it's probably between a 70's Ibanez Standard Fuzz, Sovtek Big Muff or Shin-ei Fuzz for what's making that terrifyingly perfect racket.

MikeM

Artists use textures, guitarists use fuzz ? (paraphrased off some guy on TDPRI)

I'm still in love with my fuzz so yea, not worth contributing to this thread really ? But fuzzes are still awesome.

Also I'm really getting into The Black Keys

MIKA-the-better-one

aye this fuzz thread is losing its potency.

coool, after using a big muff r 4 billions times, I never thought to put it before my OD.... anyone done this... i expect it sounds good..... as the ehx demo for the big muff it sounds great going into an overdriven amp...... sigh

Mr-M

Yeah, I would think running it that way would add a bit to the mids (because of the overdrive) which would help it cut through more than usual. At gig volumes it'll probably feed back like crazy though, especially with a Strat or other single coil guitars.

Aye. That's a very Scottish word for an American to be using? ?
