Thought the shoes were pretty good ? Total knockout performance. Those two have got such an intense show. And great fuzz tones.
One thing with fuzz, it has to be tubes. It don't sound like nuthin through a solid state amp.

The Pete Cornish NG-2
Also used on John Mayers cover of Crossroads
I really like this fuzz. But @ 457 pounds so land here for R6500... not that nice! ?
Vick
@singemonkey....no comment ?
Just joking....yea,not to be mean, but she's kinda a average drummer....and he is this exceptional guitarist...
But that might add to the magic, coz it let's his playing shine instead of it overpowering him....
Its amazing how you don't miss a bass when you listen to them...
Jack just fills up all the sonic realestate..
And yea there shows are awsum...they were married at a point, and got divorced just before they started getting a lota recodnission....
I was under the same impression, about the needs to be tubes thing...but did you checkout that vid Alan posted
With the guy and the big muf with the jc-120?
That kinda disorientated my opinions...
....that's one expensive fuzz...sounds amazing thou
makepeace
there was a thing going round that he only married her because he wanted her surname ?. complete bs obviously. but he did take her surname.. ???
yea Jacks good use of scale (and of octave effects) really nullifies the fact that they have no bassist. i really like the drumming.. its very pronounced, without as you say overpowering JW, and vice versa. i think its cool that there are little timing glitches here and there.. i mean it is music, and i'm sure Jack (being an excellent player), who could've had all the choice in the world for a drummer, probably wanted it like that. i for one wouldn't have that band any other way.

this is the EXAXT fuzz sound I want..... infact the exact guitar sound........ its so toneful.......... so in relation to fuzz with amps.......... I am a fender guy...... vox not so much for fuzz.......... mayeb an ac15 at times............. but a fender, with an OD driving it,
Sigh this video makes me sad, I really would kill to sound like that.... but even his DLS sounds great, mine is way more bassy :/
Solid state amps, mmmmmmm not for me, with fuzz......... jc 120 is goood.......... but not for what i want.
Strat. valve amp..... Fuzz
MIKA-the-better-one
this fuzz!!! its great, is there anything else which does this but isnt a booogy board ?
The sound is EXACTLY the way I like fuzz.........
CMON guys we need clips
Mr-M
No idea on where you can get a non-UFO sized and shaped RM Axis...
But in the name of posting fuzz videos:
More fuzz than a moldy peach! ?

Darn gonnit.... that fuzz is great. thats the only demo ever that i like it in, and its tempting, much like that time i testd it at your place ?
Now you have just gone and made me want it................. Its pretty darn versitile.......... It sounds like in that fuzz face mode it will handle chords :/
maybe ..........

mouldy peach hahahaha

It is really nice! I've borrowed one a few times (like the time you came over) and it really does the business, as you found out. I never really got why after loving it when you played it, you went looking for something else. ???
It does handle chords well, with the right settings. In the Fuzz Face-like settings you're using a lot less gain, more mids and less bass - with those settings I find it reacts well to chords. Crank the gain and it's power chords and single notes only, but what a gloriously huge fuzzy tone it is! 8)

the demos terrify me as well as its description....... its called a big muff, and iknow i dont like muffs, everytime I hear a fuzztone I like I see its a fuzz face ,or tonebender........... ???
although when we tried it that time, it was great, just all the demos also suck online..........
while that roger mayer has the exact fuzz tone i dream of..... and lots of knobs intimidate me........ :-\
Its a strange thing...........

Yeah, the demos don't really capture it's sound very well - except for the one I posted. It is based on the 70s Big Muff, but it sounds quite different to a Muff on most settings and actually uses a different circuit.
Personally, I'm afraid of drive pedals with few controls - I want to have most control possible!
Those Roger Mayers are crazily expensive! ??? Surely he'd sell more pedals if the price was lower? Maybe you pay a premium because it looks like a 50s Sci-Fi space ship and because he used work with Hendrix. ?
MIKA-the-better-one
those ro mayers are also so impracticle on a p board....... jeeze.....
Yeh i am so opposite, less controls less changing of the original tone for me. to many controls makes me think, its got a few ok sounds instead of one good one.
different strokes.
No on wants my blues pro so I am trading it for either a jimi hendrix ff, or the mxr fuzz......... Which i think behind a lds will sound quite sweet like that video up this thread.........
The sort of fuzz i cant stand is that bees on a can fuzz, or very focused fuzz........ I like it all open and splatty..........
you get your octave pedal yet
Mr-M
I'd say rather get the MXR Fuzz - more what you were looking for IMO. It is a Fuzz Face after all.
Forgot to say, I got a friend to retouch all the solder points in my Ottava Magus and now it's alive again - as of a couple of days ago. Thankfully I now don't have to drop cash on a new one. ? :woohoo:
MIKA-the-better-one
yeh, I figured and it doesnt sound bad running off of normal power........ and not just batteries.... Although i stil have that virtual battery (ehhhh)
So thats great obout the octave mag..................... I want to get one, but in that annoying spirit of keeping thigns small to keep from getting a looper I have limited my pedals........
we must have a jam sometime I have a heap of new pedals, Earthquaker devices mainly ? we must jam sometime....... or even better organise a FuZZ day in jhb at someones house......... so far there are 3 or four of us ?
And Fanta, so it could be called the Fuzz & Fanta day......... yep thats snazzy.....
I hope that mxr fuzz cuts it, I hope its got enough gain...... like that roger mayer pedal.... wow that is great sounding withall that gain but chrod clarity.............
Ok GFSA people we need more Fuzz talks, Mr m and I can only go so long
Vick

I've only listened to the fuzz pedals in the very first video you posted. Have to be honest, I don't see the attraction. It's just not pleasing to my ear. Maybe I should listen to more of the vids? Maybe fuzz is just not my thing. Will listen again later and comment...although there may be little to no value in what I say.
MIKA-the-better-one
Value is very subjective........... so might as well wing it..........
That first video isnt the best interperetation of fuzz..... maybe look at a few others...... the spaceship looking one ......... is a personal favourite.........
Fuzz can be so ugly if doen wrong, an it relies on guitar and amp greatly......... Most good fuzz's like good guitar and amps...
I used to be a sworn antifuzz guy, I spent months getting the write overdrives and distortions, but then it always seemed that distortion was so thin and lifeless.... and i really wanted that mmmmf.......... and an SD1, or Rat never cut it for me.............
the sound on Cd's I love is always fuzz into a dirty amp....... so yeh
but still alota guys still dont like fuzz...... and thats fair enough

Sean I like fuzz mostly in riffs. I like it best when it plays a big melodic hook and it fattens the guitar up to the level that it sound like some kind of brass instrument. I find it distracting from the nuances of the playing when used for chords and for solo improvisation - I'd always prefer to hear the improv through a really cranked tube amp than fuzzed. Cream's "Spoonful" is an example of this. I think that the lead guitar would have been more listenable without the fuzz tone.
Sometimes though, a
little fuzz adds a nice sound to a solo like on Zeppelin's Communication Breakdown (if I'm not mistaken). And I love Sonic Youth - where mild fuzz tones add enormous amounts of character to ringing open chords. But generally it sounds great on things like the main lick of the Stones's Satisfacction.
But watch the White Stripes vid here. That uses heavy fuzz throughout, but his improvs are almost a series of hooks rather than Clapton style blues fills. There I think the fuzz works great to create this really powerful guitar sound that fills the space of the track. It's also helped by not competing for frequencies because the drum kit is the only other instrument. Fuzz can easily be lost in a complex mix.
