I don't know if the free set of strings is such a great deal though! I buy a bulk pack of D'Addario 10's with 6 sets in and a free Beer Glass that says "I love my strings".... all that for R250... It works out to about R40 odd per set.... that is my kind of deal!
As you've noticed, everyone has different taste in brands and gauges, but it's hard to go wrong with either D'Addario or Ernie Ball. Start with .010 gauge and decide whether you want to go heavier or lighter from there. That's D'Addario EXL110 or Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys.

      Locally?
        Thanx guys.

Thanx a lot Alan, Ill do that as I was just about to ask which guage I should take.

@Inflameswetrust... you have a keen eye sir. I might get one of each of those as well just for future purposes.

Yep... I buy mine at Music Mate PTA East! Very good deal... I have a few glasses laying around... they make great gifts too... if you want to buy yourself a gift!!
Go for the D'Addario 10s like Alan said, very good jumping off point and then maybe try heavy bottoms. Played em for years during the grunge era ?
Elixirs are not on special but even the Nanos are peeling like a redhead in the sun. Won't get them again...
Got the Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's in 10 guage. Thanx guys... no 3 for 2 special
I'm sukkeling to find ej22's. ie .13 electric guitar strings.
ej22 should be really easy to find- very surprised that you cant find them. i am hooked on the new pure nickle strings even though i thought i wouldnt be. the issue is that we all have our own idea of tone and a spec sheet doesnt always tell us which string is too bright or the nikle is mellow or this and that. i used to enjoy slinkys for many years and tried other brands extensively until i started touring to small parts of the world where black diamond string are the only choice and i really dont like them at all. the upside of buying the right strings in bulk is that you get serious discount from the shops. so i suggest that you buy a few sets at least and they are also packaged in a way that preserves their shelf life for up to 7 years-think about the cash you will be saving

I managed to get a 3 for 2 special on some strings at the new Marshall store in Tokai... and I didn't even have to take 3 of the same either ? Got a selection of sizes to play around with, all Ernie Ball.
