Hi All

Does anybody know where to get water slide decal paper for a headstock logo or anyone know of another method of getting a design on a headstock.

Thanks ?
    Vinyl...

Any place that makes signs etc would be able to do it for you.

You get them to print make what IIRC they call cutouts or blockouts or something along that line. Effectively this appears much the same as the water slide paper stuff. Slight difference; you put it where you want it, then wet it, then rub out any bubbles and then remove the backing leaving only your logo in place.

I work with this type of stuff a lot although not on guitars, but I was thinking the other day that it could work very nicely for any graphics one would like on a guitar....

    Just my 2c.

Thanks djpauw, I googled it and it seems that will do the trick, I think I will give that a try.

BTW, http://www.jgelectronics.com/ has waterslide decal paper if anyone is interested, its about R24 a sheet.
There is a company in Randburg who sells watertransfer paper... I forgot the name but will look for it.

Get a printer to print on it for you and then you just transfer.
It can be quite a process. first comes the artwork, then the negatives/positives by a photographic company, then to someone who can print of fine waterslide decal paper.

          In Cape Town phone Berit Salander on 083 628 9717 / 021 797 7660
Usually if you want them professionally made, there are minimum quantities. Years ago I had a batch of 1000 made up of a popular brand name's logo, but had an understanding with the distributor of said brand that I would only fit them to guitars I knew were authentic and that I would supply them when they needed. ?

For my own, I made 'em myself - cooked up a design in Photoshop and printed up a page's worth on waterslide paper. Just be aware the waterslide decal paper is different for laser and inkjet printers.
Minute man press says they can do a few of my logos on an A4 size page with vynal cutting at around R80. I am sending the designs to the guys tonight, I will post back on how successfull or not the experience has been. There are limitions with the vinyls though such as a drop shadow effect on the one logo which he says he cant do. Also finer lines he says will be a problem.
Vinyl stickers are usually too thick in my experience. You end up having to put a lot more layers of clear on to get the face of the headstock level.

I know this is an old topic, but I thought I'd bring forth some related info:

Currently busy with rebuilding an old Aria 5102T, Alan pointed me in the direction of the waterslide transfer paper. Only managed to source from http://www.jgelectronics.com/ . Only A3 laser, and a minimum of 5 sheets at R24 per sheet.
Cool, I thought I was in the pound seats, got some from them, and got busy.
Now, the headstock is black, with a gold Aria logo. I finally found a place with a laser printer, that was prepared to put something with plastic in their machine, and had it printed. It looked great!
I excitedley rushed home, cut out the logo, and slid it off onto a trial practice black headstock. The gold just disappeared against the black ?
I experimented on natural maple, and it worked fine, but turns into the "invisible logo" on black.

Anyway, I had to resort to having a vinyl decal printed. It really looks awesome against the black, but as Alan says, you gotta put a lot of coats of clear on to level the surface 8) (remember to wear a respiratory mask - I got seriously poisoned)

Just thought someone could use this info to avoid unnecessary expense and also have to change direction mid build :-[
PS. when spraying small areas, I found a hairdryer really handy in speeding up the dry-time between coats.
                    Hi guys

When i lived in the UK i had some decals made from a company that came in thr form of a transfer type, you cut the sheet with the one you need tape it to the head stock and rub the transfer with a blunt pencil so that you do not get a streaky effect, then you just seal it in with some lacquer and there you go.

I have contacted a company which i hope is the same one as i used back in 1995, to get the name of the process that they used,

i will let you all know when i hear back from them.

                    Jeremy..
Those decals i had made up were in the form of rub down transfers, there are a few guys here that does this type if thing just google Rub Down Transfers and see what comes up

Thanks Jeremy. Will keep in mind for future. The vinyl turned out great in the end after a few hiccups though.

There's an art shop in fourways crossing that sells water slide decal paper it's about R35 for one A4 sheet and has all the relevant instructions on the packaging.
Hi you can get water slide decal paper from the art shop in fourways crossing , it cost about R35 for an A4 sheet, I think most of the cost is in the way it's packaged, all the relevant instructions are printed on the packaging , be careful to let the ink dry after printing, a mistake I made. I also read that after its dry you can give it a light coat of clear lacquer to stop the ink being smudged.
