No such thing as a good sounding electric kit
No such thing as a good sounding electronic drum set
@mika:
says you. He has a quality acoustic drumset already that can be used to get 'good tone'. the electronic drums are for jamming anywhere, anytime (you have a bassman, surely you can understand this?) and to do the things the acoustic kit can't.

You couldn't be more wrong.. I have a mate who is now in Jo-burg, he is a professional drummer, studied drums for 4 years and is now a session drummer. He has an electric kit and when he programs it and eq's it through the PA, it sounds VERY good!!MIKA the better one wrote: No such thing as a good sounding electric kit
Wrong. Look at the R.E.T. Percussion kits. Anyway, many big acts are triggering electronic drum samples from acoustic kits for FOH sound - they only use the acoustic kit for looks.MIKA the better one wrote: No such thing as a good sounding electric kit
+ 1 to all about electronic drums sounding good.
But hey each to their own in opinions!

Mika I'll play you a recording done with an electric kit and you won't know the difference.
Nowadays the velocity sensitive pads are great. I had the Roland HD1, entry level but it was awesome!

guys for once, it was a joke, I really have no huge argument for electric kits, except that I told my drummer no electric kit because they look stupid.
On a side note, drummers who learn on electric kits develop TERRIBLE technique often, as they pads really are easier to hit and rool off than normal drums...

<sigh> Did you look at the R.E.T. Percussion kits?MIKA the better one wrote: I told my drummer no electric kit because they look stupid.
Mesh heads respond like real drum heads. Many kits now even use normal drum heads and so respond exactly like acoustic kits. If anything, the rubber pads make you a more accurate drummer because you have to learn more controlOn a side note, drummers who learn on electric kits develop TERRIBLE technique often, as they pads really are easier to hit and rool off than normal drums...
I'm splitting this off into it's own thread in the "Other Instruments" board - please don't post things like this on a classified ad! If it was a for sale ad, you would have earned yourself a warning.
Wait, you made a joke.. PIN THIS PAGE!!!! ?MIKA the better one wrote: guys for once, it was a joke.
+1 , this helps alot with the kick drums.Anyway, many big acts are triggering electronic drum samples from acoustic kits for FOH sound
Some big studios also started to trigger drums.
The ideal drum kit would be, electric kick and toms, acoustic snare and REAL cymbals, so that means that you can record a drumset with 4 mics!!!!!
LOL! ?guitarboy2828 wrote:Wait, you made a joke.. PIN THIS PAGE!!!! ?MIKA the better one wrote: guys for once, it was a joke.
And while we're on it, I hate these new fangled "electronic" guitars. They sound nothing like a real guitar, and you have to plug them into an amplifier - like a record player. How anyone can listen to those things, I don't know.
Well they don't sound like acoustic drums. That doesn't mean that they don't sound "good" or that they can't be used creatively.MIKA the better one wrote: No such thing as a good sounding electric kit
Once upon a time there were people who saying that the electric guitar ain't no good because it don't sound like a proper guitar. Come to think of it there's still one or two of those in my own family.
Bahahahaha! Beautiful ?singemonkey wrote: And while we're on it, I hate these new fangled "electronic" guitars. They sound nothing like a real guitar, and you have to plug them into an amplifier - like a record player. How anyone can listen to those things, I don't know.
drummer in our band has a high end Roland drum kit... sounds super sweet and beauty is volume can be regulated.
My drummer used to have a great expensive Roland Electric kit and it sounded like crap, and was not real..... further I dont think Dave Grohl, Jon theodor, Thomas Pridgeon, Aaron Spears or any good drummer would opt for one live, for one reason (that is obvious)
But yes electric kits have there place, like in a quite setting where you can practice in silence... or if you play in a depeche mode cover group,,,,
Actually to be nice a band called Sliegh bels in USA uses electric kits AMAZINGly...... and there can be its unique use....
In the way of Warnings, I havent had one in a while, and I reckon if I try I could get more warnings than Karma..... Any chance you could give me a warning counts thing under my Karma??? :-\
RET Kits ... yes I know of them.... Churches opt for them, so that the older ppl dont get to offended, by louder drums.... I generally find they look like Anorexic drumkits :-[
They are great for churches, and small cover gruops, where the genral public would be "ooh theres a nice drum sound" but for musicians... say in a little more up tempo band, I dont think it would work....

From living experience I have seen drummers (plural) who play electric kits and technique suffers, I know drum teachers who generally outlaw electric kits in its rubbery goodness. At least in a conventional sense its not drumming, as they know it.... But there are places for it.Alan Ratcliffe wrote:<sigh> Did you look at the R.E.T. There's the REAL problem. You're too concerned with image, with how things look. If you could get past such shallow considerations you might even learn to take a guitar for what it is and not judge it by the name on the headstock.MIKA the better one wrote: guys for once, it was a joke, I really have no huge argument for electric kits, except that I told my drummer no electric kit because they look stupid.
?
Does this apply for guitars as well?MIKA the better one wrote: From living experience I have seen drummers (plural) who play electric kits and technique suffers, I know drum teachers who generally outlaw electric kits in its rubbery goodness.
