some video from Gabrielle Le roux benefit .......... from sunday 6th
Keira-WitherKay
we had a successful afternoon ......... and the monies raised and some personal donations have already reached Gabrielle le roux who is currently in spain on way to istanbul........ paypal is wonderful ?
thanks from myself and my partner carol to the musicians that performed.......... everyone played great sets and i have heard nothing but positive feedback about the afternoon,
from the forum Bob performed ..and thanks for that Bob , and thanks to Aja and richard from forum and their friends for supporting the event ......... if i missed anyone else who was there and i don't know ..... thanks too
right i just set up my new video cam (the new Zoom Q3. which is aimed at live music recording ) on a tripod and filmed ok well let it run all afternoon................
the sound is not great cos i set the sound setting slightly wrong
....... apoligies...... and didn't check it with the headphones........... but hey it's the 1st outing for the cam and this week i will shoot some decent footage and learn how to use the cam.also the enviroment was very noisy at benefit and i shoulda set the tripod up closer to the speaker to get a full sound instead we hear a lot of audience chatter ............ all my fault ..........
so below is just a few clips............. i have started loading the clips onto you tube....... so in next few days more should be posted..just takes time and obviously many mb's to upload.......
the clips are all only a minute or two long so won't use up too much bandwidth ...........just a taster of what went down
the afternoon started with a welcome by my partner carol
(who is the co organiser with me) she also make sthe announcement re an open mic i will be hosting there ...also for charity just after the world cup ..........
Bob started the show with a set of storytelling style songs
.......check out the morgan .........great guitar ..........
i (Keira ) played the second set and had fun......
doing a mix of original world music and a few jazz standards .... unfortunately the sound seems softer on my set.. maybe cos it's just instrumental ....... . but you'll get the idea........... anyway on the day it was loud enough .....
this next one has the sun playing havoc on the video but the crowd participation made it worth keeping.also watch for the "Ole" moment
this clip has a humorous monent in the middle of a ragtime song i wrote ....i do this every now and agin just to see if people are still watching .... ?
this is a jazz standard autumn leaves with cool walking bass lines ..... this was in a medley with take 5 and manneberg
after me Karryn and Tash .... an alternative duo performed,
check out karryn's guitar setup...... she has the Fender strat going into the TC electronics Nova system into a 50 W Laney tube amp....... great signal chain ........they ussually also perform with a bigger band too and use cello and percussion ......
heres an acoustic song of theirs
and lastly Marcia Moon did an acoustic and vocal set .she has a new cd out
again more video to follow on you tube.............. just type in
gabrielle Le Roux benefit concert june 2010
and you should get the results
thanks again for the support and the participation from Bob........and aja and richard from the site
and an open mic will be held for charity just after world cup at same venue in Northcliff jhb .......... so if you interested let me know.....
Squonk
Good stuff Keira
What is the purpose of Karryn taping up the soundhole of her Takamine?
Local music and indeed acoustic music is alive and well in RSA.
Marcia Moon looks very interesting, enjoyed her vocals and playing, as with Karryn and Tash
Bob's fingerpicking storytelling songs are brilliant, and it's great to see him live, the emotion and humour along with his playing make you hang to each word.
I would also encourage all forum members to see Keira live, the videos dont fully display the energy and performance that she puts in to each gig.
I would be interested in the open mic!
Keira-WitherKay
@ squonk karryn taped up the soundhole for feedback reasons.... she often or more than often plays loud gigs not soft ones so the acoustic can cause issues........... and i guess she just has not bought a feedback buster to shove in yet ? but the tape works......
and yeah open mic is on ........ will finalise date in next week or two but after world cup .........
