Warren
Hi there guys.
My name is Warren, I live in JHB in Edenglen.
Got my first guitar years ago when I was a teenager (an old Aria Pro II electric) and since then have been noodling around trying to figure out what all the strings are for...
Over the past few years I hardly picked up the instrument at all, and as a result I forgot most of the songs I once new. Then, about two years ago I bought John Mayer's "Where The Light Is'" DVD and was astonished at all the great techniques he employed on both acoustic and electric instruments i.e. I realised that there was a lot more you could do than the odd strummed / arpeggiated chord and decided to get back into things.
Toward the end of last year I started playing with a great band, just doing covers for now, with me on electric and acoustic guitar (mostly rhythm) and the odd bit of vocals. ? This has helped improve my playing immensely, but I still consider myself something of a beginner really.
I really like the vibe on this forum, and I hope to contribute some stuff myself, where I can! 8)

@Squonk
These days my old Aria is looking very sad. ? I have this grand plan to someday sand the thing down and "rebuild" the whole guitar using some decent pickups. It has a bolt-on maple neck which is still straight although probably needs some fret love (and most certainly a clean). The body is some kind of mystery wood (or combo of mystery woods I guess) that was once finished in white but now more closely resembles the sickly yellow of a urinal...
@Stretch
Yeah, I agree there. Not everyone likes him or his music but that DVD is a really great showcase for his abilities as both a player and a singer, and the production is brilliant. He also has some fantastic players backing him up: Steve Jordan, Pino Palladino, Robbie Macintosh and David Ryan Harris...
