Excuse my ignorance, but are Tonerider pickups good quality stuff? I've been reading about different single coils for my strat, so many pick ups out there, hard to know what's what. These toneriders don't seem to badly priced, without the R700 special even! I'm looking at the city limits http://www.tonerider.co.za/citylimits.html

In comparison to Fender which has a couple options of pickups like 50's special, 69 special, etc.

I've also been looking at Kinman as someone on the forum users them and suggested them.

Do they all do different things? Or are they all similar to some extent, just different brands?
      I'm a Tonerider fan.

I've bought LOTS of expensive American pickups over the past 20 years and I can honestly say that the Tonerider pups are every bit as good as their American counterparts. Sure, they don't offer a noiseless version yet, but I think they make incredible vintage-styled pups AND the quality and look is just fantastic. They also use only the highest quality components.

Don't compare these pups to Mighty Mite or anything else from the east - they're in a different league altogether! Just check out the reviews all over the Internet.

I was a bit dubious when I ordered my first set of Generators but after installing them and comparing to expensive dimarzio pups in another guitar I was just floored. ?

Their service is also very good.

Just get the Toneriders - you won't be sorry. I got the Classic Blues set and they're fantastic! Nothing bad about the Kinmans but only if you want noiseless or if you've got serrrrrrious money!

The Tonerider pups are also wax potted so theyre about as quiet as they come.

Great, that's all i needed to hear to fuel my GAS! ? Thanks!
I've been looking at getting Tonerider pickups.

Can anyone give me some feedback about their online store. Is it safe? Has anyone had bad experiences in dealing with them? Are they not just an overseas company charading as South Africans?

The prices and the quality of the product looks very impressive I must say!

Locally based in Cape Town. Their online store is simple to use and I had no problems or qualms from a safety perspective.

Service is unbelievably good ! If I was a swearing man, I'd be able to tell you just how good ?

                Good idea.

It's safe, and delivery is efficient. I don't believe you'll have any problems with them. They keep you informed throughout the process (which shouldn't be for longer than a day or two, actually).

You mean like SAB? You support their products, don't you? Hahaha. ? They are an overseas company that needed locals to act as distributors, but so what?
                  R700 for a set. Nice...

I'm looking for new pickups for my Vintage V100 (Les Paul copy) to give it some more ooomph over the current pickups. How would these differ from the existing pickups which are based on Gibson PAF's?

AndreM is a member here and is a well known player in the band Late Final and others. I've had good dealings with him before and have never heard anything but praise for him and the Tonerider store.

Pretty much what you describe - oomph!. It's a high output set.
Thanks Alan. It is indeed very tempting...

                      //Edit. Swipey swipey.
Guys . . . am i loosing it, or just getting behind the times ?

I thouht i knew all the major after market pick up makers there is to know.
But i have never heard of Tone Rider before.

                        Any info very welcome.

PS : any big names using these that one might know of ?

                        Cheers
Just some feedback folks. The Tonerider online store is indeed run by South Africans. I've just spoken to Andre, the store owner. He is in Cape Town and has all the pickups in stock in his store. He's a very nice bloke indeed and assured me that everything is safe and secure and he personally guarantees every sale.

So, in a nutshell the Tonerider online store in Cape Town does in fact belong to him and is an authentic SA store and not some third party from Korea or somewhere else.

My generator set is now on the way! ?

Tonerider is on the move dude. I reckon in a few years they're going to be highly sought after and prices are going to shoot up. I mean, they were at NAMM this year and had all these hotshots playing at their booth and they've only been around for something like 2 or 3 years, compared to Seymour and other famous brands who've been around for like 30+ years. Their pickups are designed by a UK custom shop pickup designer and manufactured in the east and managed by a bloke called Cunningham from the UK.

The generator set at R700.00 is a steal! Even at the normal price it's a steal.

                            I love them - they're awesome!

Ahhhh, thanx for the info James. ?

Would you (or anyone else for that matter) know if these SA pu's are 'hand-made' like my buddy Dave (and owner) from Stephens Design are making ?
                              (...just curious)

Every single hole that gets drilled is done by one man in his workshop.
