Hi all, first time poster here...
I'm currently taking it under consideration to buy some active studio monitors, and would appreciate a bit of advice from the experienced and knowledgeable ?.
Firstly, my intended purpose for the monitors would be mixing and recording obviously, but also, with intent to use them for guitar rig/ jamming purposes, and possibly as a low volume bedroom vocal PA system. My room is approximately 5 x 3.5 x 3 meters, currently untreated (though this over time, will change). Current budget that I'm willing to spend is 6.5K, give or take a bit.
So, 3 main questions really:
1.) Any advice/ suggestions as to which would be better to invest in:
*KRK RokitG2 6 or 8's
*A pair Yamaha HS50M
*Yamaha HS80M
*Yamaha MSP5's
*Other personal recommendations?
2.) In terms of my intent, I know a lot of the forum members use guitar rig through their monitors, and that's fine and dandy, but would using them as a mini vocal pa, just for lowish volumes (ie, no playing with drummers ?) be alright? Maybe some harmonica players can offer their opinions, ever jammed harp through your studio monitors? I would also be playing electric guitar, bass and perhaps setting up an electric drum kit through these things at times... Will I murder these speakers if I do this? At a future point I'll invest in a sub...
3.) KRK RP 6's or 8's for my room size? Or Yamaha HS5's or 8's
Any input is highly appreciated
Thanks,

First of all welcome to the forum.
I would be hesitant to use studio monitors as a vocal PA in a small room for the following reasons:
1. You would likely get acoustic feedback from the monitors before any decent vocal level is reached.
2. The level required to overcome the level of your own internal voice is likely to cause distortion on the monitor loudspeakers when you reach dynamic peaks in your singing.
When you monitor someone else singing in another room, the acoustical level is largely removed (depending on the effectiveness of the acoustic isolation) and all you are listening to is the reproduction of their voice in the loudspeakers.
Monitoring a guitar etc would be fine as it is direct into the monitors and not trying to compete with the acoustic level of a guitar amplifier for example.
Hope that helps
