What you missed at TJ's Acoustic Club on 18 March 2010 @ Marks Park
Incredible hall this time, I think it was the Jubilee Hall(I Think...)
Met up with Aja (and friends), Keira, Alicia, Bob and Fingerpicker.
Atmosphere was great and Fingerpicker was the main man and started the evening off with his TJ's song accompanied by Keira, doing some blues licks and excellent percussion. ( Forgot to take a Pic, Sorry Fingerpicker!)
Then it was the turn of Keira and Alicia who performed their set of Jazzy numbers that thrilled the audience to pieces. Keira has this whole percussive thing going while she plays bass lines, melody and whatever she can get a finger or toe onto. (you have to see Keira to actually understand this). Alicia has this powerful voice that compliments Keira's playing like another instrument!
Keira doing her thing, notice her feet, each one playing percussion, notice the percussion stand on the right with cymbal.
@ Keira, I really enjoyed the Bass lines and some of the Soloing, you had it sounding like a double bass.
Bob did his set of Richard Thompson and Loudon Wainwright songs. This is only the second time I have seen Bob, and I was quite impressed with the way he played these Storytelling songs. Bob plays and sings with emotion and humour and makes these songs come alive and the audience at TJ's were hanging on every verse, just waiting to hear the climax. And the 'Walking Encyclopedia' he was indeed, with a full story for each song.
In action, suffering from a dodgy knee. Note Fingerpickers Koa Larry, just to the right of Bob
There were a couple of other acts, Jeff Dix - brilliant stuff. I enjoyed his version of "Message in a bottle" and he did a very good "Neon" by John Mayer.
A couple of older guys did some Kris Kristofferson and Cliff Richard?
Ending off the evening was 'Them Particles' which was hugely interesting, Lap Steel, accordian and this rootsy folky traditional style of music which included an Afrikaans song and an Irish song written in Johannesburg! Worth catching up with these guys
These evenings are good stuff and I am finding watching these musicians is just adding to my own playing and inspiring me to play guitar and learn and discover things I possibly wouldn't have found in my own little world.
The fellowship of the forum members is another great thing, Meeting all of you that come along just adds a new dimension to chatting on the forum.
