Rabbie Burns? Ah did'nae knoo he pleeyed t'guitar.
I dinnae ken what he played, but he must have played something because he wrote several songs. I have an Eddie Reader CD of songs written by or associated with Burns (and she still had a couple left over for a later project).
The song in question is "Ye Jacobites By Name". It was actually re-written by Burns. He kept the original tune but did a major re-write of the lyrics (originally written by a sassenach). It shows the power that a great poet can wield. The original had a short shelf life, it was too rooted in particular events and persons. Burns keeps much of the original spirit, but his version just keeps on ringing down the ages and stays alive and vital.
