  • new rodriygo y gabriella ablum 11:11

yesterday i went shopping ... and found the new Rodgriygo y gabriella cd 11:11 i never hesitated and just bought it ...... on the strength of their 1st cd........ this one is definitely up to par and comes with a dvd showing them rehearsing just acoustically in their or someones lounge... then a tour of the studio they recorded the song at and a short tutoriol .........

can't think of anything i don't like about this cd........ they world musicians who have come from a metal band background and adopted the acoustic /mexican/flamenco style and embraced it and made it truly their own....... i was impressed that they maintain their "voice" that is one recognises them in the new album.......

they an interesting duo..... and show how one can make an original mark in the world music scene with some talent and some originality ........ i love that they borrow (steal ?) from metal to rock to flamenco and find their own style....loveit

and yeah the rock players will love rodriygo's shred style albeit on acoustic........ also most of their music composed around riff based ideas with the flamenco /mexican style backing from gabriella

a cd well worth the dosh ........

I also bought the album purely on a friends ranting, never having heard them before myself, and I was not dissapointed. Great music all around.

I quite enjoyed the DVD as well, I'm still keen on trying out the tutorial later.
I think the production is better than on the previous cd's.
The songs are very well crafted especially the tribute to Hendrix 'Buster Voodoo" which is covered in the tutorial.

I can manage Rodrigo's parts with a bit of effort, but Gabriella(That percussive thing she does) , must be my favourite female guitarist. I wouldn't mind having a jam with her, and I mean it in the innocence of the word(playing guitar together) ?

The only negative for me is the Wah Wah thing they do, doesn't quite fit in with their sound.
The DVD is excellent, and as Keira mentioned you get to see the studio in mexico, lots of interviews, Rod and Gabby playing about 5 songs together, and of course the tutorial.
I haven't bought the album, but having read an interview of their's in Guitar World, i checked them out on Youtube..and i wasn't disappointed.

I listened to their tribute to Dimebag Darrell, and everything (including Alex Skolnick's solo) about it blew me away.

the interesting thing about this album.is it's not a flamenco/mexican album......... and is far more easily described as an unplugged rock album..... that boy rodriygo shreds up there with the best .......... and the songs are not contructed or composed to traditional flamenco style....... but more like rock/metal songs since they all riff based...... although they do borrow on the flamenco and mexican genre's sound.this to me makes it an original album.and the band has its own distinctive sound......no one can accuse em of being clones of anyone........ and fabulously talented musicians....... and incredible that they sound so great as a duo ........ but if you listen to the interviews they say it took 10 years from leaving mexico with this 'concept' of acoustic metal/rock/flamenco/mexican acoustic blend to make it to this point .... so perserverence is definetly their strength too
