Yup, the forum was down for a very long time. It's up now and I'm making changes to make sure this doesn't happen again any time soon.

The problem was related to one of the other domains I host sending UCE through my server which caused IS and Afrihost to shut the whole thing down as we'd been warned before about this.

Suffice it to say that the domain is being moved to a totally separate server and my partner on that site has agreed not to do mailshots anymore.

Yeah I started to get the shakes - went hot and cold all over - started sweating profusely - I have to confess that I sent a desperate email to Dr Alan because I needed a fix, a support group, rehab, anything, I was going down - but then it all came back on, (Thanks anyway Dr Alan) ?

I had only one tab open this morning... I was lost. As a result I actually ended up doing some work before 8am. Now that's a strange sensation!

Luckily I have been too busy to think about it or I would probably have suffered immensely.

I must say, it's amazing how much this site has become part of our daily routines...

I actually got so used to it being down I stopped checking until I realised the error of my ways around lunchtime today! And then I beheld....it's alive once more!

You give SMTP access to your clients? ? I make mine use their own ISP, as sooner or later some bright spark in the company says "Hey, I've got all these email addresses and I have this email program...". I tell them that as the sites are hosted Stateside, it's much more efficient to use their local ISP. That way if they screw up, it affects only them instead of getting your reseller account and all the domains you host suspended. For those that need it, I supply a mailing list manager which can send out to large lists without taxing the web server.

I also set up redirects on their domain for them to use for incoming mail, forwarding their mail to a local account.

Alan, he's a partner, not a client. Thing is, he used his own SMTP server but it was promoting a domain that I host so the complaints ended up going through to me and my upstream :/
