  • How much do you love your Tokai LoveRock?

Hey chaps. Time to wax lyrical on how awesome, fantastic and just plain sooper-dooper your Tokai LoveRock is.

I'll get the ball rolling.

I bought mine in London for £200 (incl. Gibson gig bag worth £70) on eBay from a chap in Manchester. It arrived with terrible action, rusty strings, graunched frets and the pickguard was hanging off. After a little love and attention courtesy of Black Guitars in Stoke-Newington, it is now the most lovely guitar I have ever played.

Tone to die for (much better than an Epi, and definitely more unique than the generic LP tone): sweet neck pickup, loads of harmonics on the bridge pickup. Begs you to bend on it, the fretboard's camber is just the most natural bending radius I've ever played. Gilmour-esque composite bends are like yawning, even with 10's. And tune to Eb and you'll have Slash on the back foot.

I'm told it has a sycamore top, instead of Gibbo's maple. Maybe that's why it sounds so special. The rest is standard LP affair: mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard.

I love it. And when I've worked out this whole upload thingymajigger, I will post piccies.

Now tell me about yours.
Which one is it? Model? Year? Pictures plz ?

I'm getting a Tokai as soon as I sell another guitar. Really looking forward to it. I think most of the less pricey love rocks are sycamore veneer over maple - not solid sycamore.

After chatting with Martin Schofield & Brent at Marshall yesterday, I wish I hadn't. Brent's advice? Don't play one if you want to keep your bank balance the same.

So much for help, more like stepping on the GAS. I must not think of P90s.

"Don't play one if you want to keep your bank balance the same".

Brilliant, do you mind if I use this quote, possibly on the website and other places?
Can some Admin please delete this thread? I'm getting really BAD "Love Rock" GAS!!!

Glad all you guys rate this so high, it just make me want one more and know it is a good buy!
Actually I'm getting some for review soon, so if anyone in the Cape is interested in seeing them in the flesh, we should be able to make a plan sometime.
Nice Alan, let us know! Napier is not that far from Durbanville ?

Would love to see one, and maybe just touch it!

Knock yourself out, bro - it's Brent's quote. He followed it up along the lines of:

"We've sold about 7 or so since they came in. They're like the Taylors - guys come in asking & we tell them not to play it if they want to keep their money in the bank. So they sit down and play for an hour or two and we see them looking at the guitar with that look on their face that says they're leaving with it, but they're doing the maths and wondering what to tell the wife".
Well, if enough people are interested in seeing them I could maybe spend a few days at our flat in Plumstead (not far from Bothner's Plumstead) and anyone interested in them can drop by... It's a block of flats, so no cranking it without the Tube Tamer unfortunately.

Unlikely to be the distributor because he'd annoy a lot of people if he tried to undercut his retail outlets.

More likely this is stock left over from Xmas that was bought at the old price and which is still being offered on special. McGibbon's were discounting Tokais over Xmas and still have some at the special price.

Prospective buyers should check to see what they are getting. There is a Tokai RANGE of models, and thus a range of prices. A Love Rock offered at 10k may just be lower down the range (though from what I've seen the lower end models are still pretty good).
