They think I've changed since I started playing guitar.
Funny thing that, very few of my friends are musicians or are interested in music outside of what they hear on the radio. (ie what they are made to listen to) so it's tough talking technical with them I get blank stares all the time
I don't bother with that kind of talk unless I'm asked directly. I was enough of a pain in the backside when I wasn't playing guitar - convinced that I knew what sucked and what didn't ?
A lot of my friends take rugby seriously in a way that I never could. I am always happy when SA win, but I can't regard it as some kind of sacrament the way that some folks do (this seems to happen a lot with soccer too).
But there are always other things to talk about - plenty of them.
Some of my friends have actually been quite supportive of my attempts at TJs, coming to cheer me on. But they always wish I'd play more songs "that everybody knows". They were also the only people to get the deeply Freudian joke that comes at the end of Loudon Wainwright's "White Winos", which they had never heard before, when I played that at TJs so I know that they do actually listen.
