In previous threads we have discussed a number of opinions on the parlatones and other SA bands. I realised I never really voiced why I so dreadfully disliked Parlationes and further why they conjured a sense of spit to my mouth (hypothetically of course).
So Parlatones to start are a pop rock band, which I find have COMPLETLY ripped off a band in the 80s called "JAMES" Have a look for yourself, or a listen for that matter. Further more past this point I find there music simply a few pop rock songs with the same hooks and tricks througout all 3 or 4 albums they have put out. Just have a look at there album titles which carry with them all the same feel. RADIO CONTROLED ROBOT, A WORLD NEXT TO YOURS, STARDUST GALAXIES. you tell me if you sense the same incanation amngst all these titles. All in all musically there has been no development or progression in sound, whereby in other pop rock bands such as the BEATLES you find they progressed a huge amount from album to album, which earned them respect as musicians despite the simplicity of there music.
Consider there image, perhaps someone can see the resemblance between both there make up and a film from the 1970s called "a clockwork orange" (a good film at that).
Now consider there vast succes, yes they have a lap top endorsement, they have a wine range, they have cellphone sponsership, THEY EAVEN have a bloody KFC meal named after them!!! But does that show succes as a musician???? Does Paris hiltones small aid work earn her the noteriety as a Aid worker????? NO She is known for what she does best, and thats be a ditsy blonde bimbo. NOw parlotones on a scale of business can be called succesful, because they are, they are what we know as one big endorsing GIANT, but musically they are not all there, and somehow people think that all this endorsed backing earns them a title as succesful musicians.
However my opinion is that the more money you get behind you while making music actually makes you more reliant on a higher class of lifestyle and thus has an eefect on ones willingness to take chances and develop ones muic. In short one will be to scared to take chances to possible create new, better music.
THEREFORE MUSICALLY I find the Parlatones bad musicians however very good at business thus we can all say "wow, when I own a business I will lokk up to the Parlatones" Musically they are not original, intersting, they are just another po rock band, capatalising on the image of music.
The cool thing is not everyone will agreee with this and therefore you will provide them with there bread and butter.
This is just my explanation as to why I dislike them so much.
