Any goals? ambitions? 2010

Well specifically guitar related and not resolutions. I've been doing this guitar thing for nearly a year now and I plan that in this year I will: i) submit to the Forum compos (when I get a recording tool thing ie.) ii) get my cute little ass over to an open mic somewhere and gooi a toon or two. And yours?

Build a repertoire of songs I can play comfortably and enjoy playing. Whether covers or original - don't mind. Preferably a mix. And then get comfortable playing in front of people *shiver* ?

My biggest goal is to play live somewhere, I am scared to death at the prospect. :-[

I also will find a teacher that can push me to new levels, or at least open the doors for me.

I need to get some focus again - start working towards specific things. Recently I dusted off a couple of tunes that I never got finished when I taking lessons with John van Nierop and have been plugging away at those. Having those few slide lessons was good because it gave me some direction - but I need to find my own inner direction (either that or give up pretentious pseudo-philosophy).

I am starting lessons on Thursday with Keira. First goal for me is to get my plectrum work more consistent. I need a better grip, and have to make that into a habit to replace the old bad habit that I have.

Those of you wanting to play live for the first time (and living in Jo'burg) could give consideration to open mic nights at TJs. The crowd there are very friendly and supportive. First one of the year is 28th Jan. I will happily go along and hold hands and guitars if required.

I also want to get lessons in the near future.
Been playing for roughly 3 years now (self taught), and it doesnt feel like I'm progressing at the moment.
In desperate need of direction and guidance.

Anyone on the forum, giving lessons in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, please drop me a PM, or maybe just point me in a direction.

1.write more songs especially the melodies
2.finish those which are almost there
3.get it home recorded so that I won't forget the best parts in each
4.find a lyricist in Stellenbosch...... :-[

5.try to find a real '59 Les Paul at a bargain price ?

I do want to put together a blues Trio to play at the Blues Train for my birthday this year as well. That should be fun.

martial arts coaches are nuts. Every one of them. Don't let anyone tell you different. Why can't they just accept that it's a freaking sport, not a religious cult?

So So true. And even if it were a religious cult, you would think they'd have found some peace through it.
Well, this year will see me going through ALL the help topics in my recording program instead of blindly marching ahead.
Get a better microphone to record with, this stick on pick- up is not so great.
Dive in to my composing, everything falls into place when you just start.

Then I will TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!Mwa ha ha ha.

A very specific goal for my immediate future: I got hold of a tutorial video clip of Brian May playing "Love of my life" on his 12 string. I've been fooling around with my own version for some time, which is the musical equivalent of my cooking...edible, it won't kill you, but no one will come back for seconds and like my food, my music is always instantly recognizable as my own, and I want to sound different than me... :'(

So I'm gonna work on that tune, learn all those chords that he uses - and there are some weird ones.

Generally though, I want to put more effort into learning more songs. I've fooled around long enough with my own tunes and I'm not getting anywhere. Time for new inspiration, new chords and new techniques. And make more time to play and record. I got sucked in by work and other harsh realities of life during the past few months. Won't let that happen again!

I had a good guitaring 2009. Lost 2 sweet guitars but got 2 even better ones, improved a fair bit and even recorded new stuff for the first time in years. Just have to stay focused now - that's the challenging part.

2010 plan is to keep practicing, writing, recording and improving at all the above. Maybe generate enough material to fill an "album"... to do what with I'm not sure. At the very least, material to bore my grandkids with one day.
