My boss wants to buy his son a full size weighted (possibly hammer action) keyboard. Which brands / models should we look at that will provide good value for money? He doesn't want top of the range, but needs to be fairly decent.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Unless there is something on the market I don't know about, a full 88-key hammer action usually puts you in or near the top of the range stuff. Either way, Roland then Yamaha would be my first choices.
Is he looking for a keyboard or an electronic piano? If it's the latter I know of an older Clavinova going cheaply (for what it is).

Thanks Alan
The man says he doesn't really need hammer action, but weighted would be cool. Does that make any difference to your statement? Have give him your recommendation on brands. Ignoring budget for now, do you know any specific models we should be looking at?
Please PM me details of that clavinova, he has a new Clavinova himself, but it is in his office, so the son can't spend as much time on the thing as he would like.

No real difference - 88-key keyboards are usually at least weighted and often hammer action too.
Keyboard stuff I usually go for Roland -they have the advantage of Cape Town-based backup. Look at their HP and FP ranges and choose a model that fits the budget. The lower model Stage pianos like the RD300s are nice too, but you'd need a stand and pedals. The Yammys are nice sounding too.
If it's an acoustic pianist they should try both the Rolands and the Yamahas to see which they prefer playing - the actions do feel slightly different. If they are used to the Clavinova they have, they will probably take to another Yammy quicker than a Roland.
I'll PM you about the Clavi...
