My name is Dirk. I am from the Capital City, Pretoria. Currently I play electric guitar for my church but I also play rock mostly. Big fan of hard rock, old school metal, punk, alternative. Industrial, power metal. My gear is easy. Still only have my first guitar which is a Behringer strat. Have a Boss GT-8 and a old amp called Drive 50w. Been playing guitar for 8 years now but electric only 3-4 years now. Will post pics as soon as i get n chance.

Welcome MNM7... Playing at church is great practice. I used to never learn a song all the way through, then I had to when I played at church, it forced me to practice better.
was the worst years of my life though... some people can be very demanding.

Ha-ha, no. I was left holding the fort. Generally when people see someone doing a good job, they leave it and we had nobody new coming forward to play. When I left apparently 3 people came forward. Those 3 people were happy to sit on the side and watch me slave away doing everything and I didn't get a break in a few years.

It gets tough.

Well since I started playing for a church band I have learned a lot. Chord variations like shifting the 3rd or the 5th and not always playing the root note on the top strings. Movable shapes, using triads etc. And also it's taught me a lot about effects. Cause, and correct me if I'm wrong, but church songs or Praise and Worship songs make the most use of effects especially delays, chorus, and mixing different effects such as n phaser with n tremolo. I've enjoyed it. Also when it comes to distortions and overdrives. Like some songs are nice and lively so I use a nice distortion. Other songs require a more subtle touch so then I use an overdrive. So playing dynamics has been a major lesson learned.
