Why I Would Rather Gouge My Own Eyes Out Than Play An Ibanez

Hmmmm. After much consideration & many years of playing (Mostly Fenders), I've come a simple conclusion. I will never, by my own free will or choice, choose to play a guitar made by Ibanez. For a few reasons.... Build quality. Having seen many many RG model electrics I just think they seem inferior? And the two buckers one single coil 'versatility' these things claim seems like a 'Stuff more bits in to fool people' philosophy. As for their high end models. One word. Ugly. And as for who plays them. Weeeelll, that brings me to the Main gripe I have with these things. Image. Image. Ibanez as a brand overall just speaks to me of 'heavy metal' wankery and overblown cock-rock guitarists. When I picture Ibanez I picture uncreative, speed obsessed, non-musical 'bands' making bland & uninteresting noise. (not good noise as one would find being thoughfully constructed by the likes of Sonic Youth, Battles, Mogwai or Slint) but rather terrible noise as you might hear from those mighty twats Vai & Satriani. I picture that self obsessed wanking when I picture Ibanez and it just puts me off. I might consider an entry level semi hollow like one of the Jet Kings as a spare guitar for kicks, but i guess if I really was that way inclined I would just do an epiphone casino or dot. I dunno man. Fenders for me. Some Gibsons, maybe a Rickenbacker. But no no Ibanez. ?

So I went to a friends place today for a little guitar pedal stuff, and sadly I feel I did something I CANT condone, so bad I feel I have to report it.
I am so ashamed....... I PLAYED AN IBANEZ!!!!!
But the really bad thing is I really liked it :'( :'( >☹ ? ? :'( :'(
It was an Ibanez Blazer from the 80s.... with some snazy pups.... I must say it was nice, the set up wasnt to bad either, but wow sounded great through a vox.
Now its time to go cut my eyes fresh out......

i had a blazer years ago , i loved the guitar to bits , sadly is was stolen ....and if i ever find the S**tH**D i will destroy his very been , but yes the blazers are excellent guitars

Yeah I had one. In fact two. I bought the baseline model (the 100?) from TOMS (when they were still in Bree street). This was a nice guitar, but there was a problem with the frets. I can't fault TOMS on this. They took the issue seriously, sent the guitar for inspection and got a report back that the fingerboard was problematic. They said they would replace - no quibbling. But they didn't have another like it in stock, so they replaced it with the top of the line model with the whammy bar (which I wasn't that interested in) and the coil taps (which I was very interested in). Very nice instrument.

I should have kept that one, but I didn't. ☹

What would you expect to pay for one of those here? Street price in the USA seems to be around $1500.

I had a beautiful blonde Ibanez - but the previous owner had tried to convert it to a John Mclaughlin special, with scalloped frets and all, then it flopped and later he gave it to me. It had the most exquisite decorative border painted on it by a friend. So I took it and tried to get it converted back again - all this ignorance (shameful!) Then one day when times were tough, the poor old Ibanez went off to the pawnshop! So I'm wondering whether anyone ever bought a secondhand beautiful but mutilated Ibanez?

I found a couple on the UK sites for around 540 Pounds, given the current exhange rate that's about R6500 - R7000. That's a lot of guitar for that price, given the specs...

Then you'd think somebody would be stocking them. You can easily pay that much for a Breedlove, and a more than that for an MIA Breedlove. The cheapest Larrivee you can get is substantially more expensive. What sort of Taylor are you going to get for 7 grand?

I'd be quite interested in checking one of these out because they have quite a novel construction.

For sure, that wierd bracing system looks quite cool.

You might get a big baby Taylor for that price, which I don't think is even a real guitar. Maybe you could also get one of those cardboard Martins second hand.

Gee... just when we thought the whole Ibanez thing is starting to lie down somebody goes and disses another guitar that at least two forum members own ?

I had a Big Baby. Sold it to another forum member. It plays well, has a solid spruce top and sounds pretty good. Certainly way better value and IMO a better axe than the "kitchen counter" Martins (to give them their proper name ?).

I meant to say that I don't think the Big baby quite compares to other Taylors, then again it is half the price of the next model up.

I have played a couple and they do play well!
