Why I Would Rather Gouge My Own Eyes Out Than Play An Ibanez

Hmmmm. After much consideration & many years of playing (Mostly Fenders), I've come a simple conclusion. I will never, by my own free will or choice, choose to play a guitar made by Ibanez. For a few reasons.... Build quality. Having seen many many RG model electrics I just think they seem inferior? And the two buckers one single coil 'versatility' these things claim seems like a 'Stuff more bits in to fool people' philosophy. As for their high end models. One word. Ugly. And as for who plays them. Weeeelll, that brings me to the Main gripe I have with these things. Image. Image. Ibanez as a brand overall just speaks to me of 'heavy metal' wankery and overblown cock-rock guitarists. When I picture Ibanez I picture uncreative, speed obsessed, non-musical 'bands' making bland & uninteresting noise. (not good noise as one would find being thoughfully constructed by the likes of Sonic Youth, Battles, Mogwai or Slint) but rather terrible noise as you might hear from those mighty twats Vai & Satriani. I picture that self obsessed wanking when I picture Ibanez and it just puts me off. I might consider an entry level semi hollow like one of the Jet Kings as a spare guitar for kicks, but i guess if I really was that way inclined I would just do an epiphone casino or dot. I dunno man. Fenders for me. Some Gibsons, maybe a Rickenbacker. But no no Ibanez. ?

I have played a couple and they do play well!

Hahahaha.....no probs Dillon, we all have our likes and dislikes..........the BB Taylor is a much better than average "beginners" guitar....for quite a few reasons........for one, my son (9) is loving his! ?

We got our older AW1000ECE at TOMS a few years ago so they should have stock of the newer ones.

An absolutely awesome guitar BTW. Plays very nicely with 80/20 bronze strings.

just to clarify I still love fender, it was just a surprisingly styly guitar......... nice sound and stuff, but it had been modded alot.....
I dont think there are many artists I like who use ibanez, The majority of bands I like use fender gibson, or rickenbacker. Which makes me more inclined to those brands

Thats exactly the Ibanez that inspired this whole discussion, the exact offending culprit........ IRONY....... disgust
Its probably one of the ugliest guitars I could imagine........
some may disagree, teles may run a close second :-\

@Mika: It's funny, teles used to be utterly fugly to me. Then seeing John 5 shred it up on one I started thinking "mmmm....". Now they're slowly growing on me. (I know: I'm a spineless puppet of the mass media machine.) I would love to have a vintage-looking tele hanging next to that dayglo 7-string Ibby in my living room, what a talking point HAHA.

I understand that the J is pronounced as an H in spanish speaking countries...? So you should say... Hose Feliciano, San Hose.. etc...I intend going to Mexico in Hune this year.. ?

Teles I love them really i do, but I have NEVER been happy with one for to long, for some reason strats work for me, I hate it as I think strats are slutty guitars but they just work, the other guy in my band makes fun of it being common etc, but it really does work for me........ it is a pretty unoriginal guitar, teles look cool for there weirdness, but like i said not for me.

Let's face it man. You'd love to be an individual, but the bourgeois conformist in you will always win. Stop fighting. Make sure your strat is candy-apple red or grey, just like Bryan Adams's, or Mike's from Mike and the mechanics, take up golf, learn to love mid-priced wines, become a consultant and you'll be much happier...

Mika...brandy and coke is not good for you ! ? . Let me tell you...after a bottle of fine Cabernet, even a Tele becomes acceptable. However you'll need a few more for an Ibanez. ?

Playing a strat hardly marks one as a non-comformist.

Very few truly tread their own path. The best most of us can hope for is to accept a slightly different set of norms. And I think some of the people we regard as iconic rebels would love to be deeply ordinary. Mick Jagger's PA says that Jagger would like nothing more than to go down to the local and have a pint and a game of darts.

I went to Jagger's local three weeks ago (it's right next to his house) and there wasn't a dartboard. Guess that scuppers his dreams...

If your bandmate rips you off about a Strat, for fashion-related reasons, I fear the band's priorities may not be in the right place...
