Celtic Rock Metal
Rudolf wrote: My choice for a topic is actually thanks to Master Tailon and the chat crew. This week we do "Irish folk rock". Drew suggested we open it up a bit so all things Irish/Celtic/Scottish will be considered good, in my mind their all pretty equal anyways. Only constraint be it must be heavyish, rock or metal! Dust off the bagpipes! 8)

        :roflmao: :roflmao:
Try listening to the Drop Kick Murphy's and Floggin Molly.
          Good inspiration for Celtic rock!
On the heavier side try a little waylander ..... Time to dust off the violin and flute
Any U2 wannabes here's your chance, I hope the Junk mail filter on my PM doesn't reject your entries though ?
You could also try listening to Fairport Convention (from the Liege and Lief album onwards) or Jethro Tull circa The Broadsword and the Beastie.

I pity the poor judges who have to decide what is and isn't "celtic".

You might even try some of the earlier Fairport albums. Unhalfbricking included "A Sailor's Life" which many regard as the birth of British folk-rock.

U2 are Irish, but they are NOTHING to do with any kind of folk-rock.

You might consider the Pogues even, but not U2. If you want the "guitar as bagpipes" thing then consider Big Country or Richard Thompson. Big Country have the sound, Thompson has the licks and the drone.

Seven nations is also a good starting point .
Curses... my GT8 is still out of action...

I'm going to have to record everything with the Rode NT2
AYE!!! Good thing I am a little bit scott. Will try get something for this one. Oh crap no electric guitar up here ?
Ha! I'm thinking some of the older Queen stuff, or Blackmore's Night. Hurdy-gurdy and banjo's, with a Ritchie Blackmore type lead. Won't be easy to pull that off!

Well, I'm scot-free, but I'll give it a bash with my 1/8th Irish.
I am going try this with my irish blood and a can of gunisness..... Now whered i put that flute and violin
Excellent! Seems everyone's on top of this one. ? I do hope I can find a way to getting around to recording something. Meetings, setup clinics and a work trip to Durban's on my agenda this week. Grrrr.
ok... me in this one... should be cool... just gotta get round to playing
Take a listen to Phil Keagey to get some ideas.
Bloody hell.... almost blew my eardrums on the mixing... freakin hell. Luckily the mp3 doesn't portray the volume of that.
