Members area?

I've been wondering if y'all would like a "members only" board? Somewhere which is not publicly accessible to non-members.

I'd still like to keep most of the forum public, as the info found there is what drives people to sign up as members anyway, but just somewhere where you can relax a bit more and speak to friends.

Just a thought...

Any opinions? Thoughts?

A few cons if not done properly, but I have faith in our admins to do it right. So ja, why not.

Me neither. There's little I will type for the eyes of 1000+ members to see, that the rest of the world mustn't. If there's good stuff in the members area of other forums I usually sign up and come back only when I think about the topic again (rarely). I have been surprised by my browser automatically logging me in to forums I stumbled upon...

I think it kinda segregates people a bit, although it could help with membership stats

yeah this is a guitar site......... ???? so why should anything be pvt? membership is free..... i can understand if this was say some pay site but why ??? just my thoughts

Don't see the point. If you want to chat with another member then there are chat and PMs.

If I were a guest, what benefit would I get from the private area if I joined?

I'm assuming the private board would be used as an incentive of sorts - something like the Virgin Active ads - join now and get all this cool stuff ?

strange a friend warned me that forums start to become like this after a while, i didn't ever believe that GFSA would ever want to go private.

the chat room and PM is private isn't it? so what more do we need ?

Besides what would you wanna post that is so private that only registered users can read?
lets stick to guitars.

I suppose that's a valid argument Manfred.. Majority of the really off topic stuff gets discussed in chat anyway, it's just a pity that it's a few regulars most of the time.

Fair enough - was just a vague idea I wanted to get input on, see how you all felt about it.

I'm not planning any major changes, moving to a subscription based model or hiding large parts of the forum from all but the top users or anything like that. Just wondered if we had a real use for the feature. Gimme some credit. ?
