  • I can never play the drums again, says Phil Collins

He was a very good drummer especially in the Early Genesis days, Brand X etc.
Listen to Peter Gabriel's 3rd album where Phil does some excellent work, one song in particular called "Intruder".
Very sad indeed ☹
Good drummer I thought as well
So playing drums caused it, maybe we should tell all our drummer friends to sit up properly when they play
I find it odd that this went on so long and got as far as this. At some point it should have occured to him to seek medical advise. If he'd done that earlier then physiotherapy and some guidance on good posture may have sorted the problems out. Now he's sitting with damage to his spinal chord. It's been a long time since he was so skint he couldn't afford to go to a quack (and besides there was always the NHS).

Take this as a warning! Playing music is fun, but there are potential health risks as well. Pay attention to your body, and if it's sending you a warning signal then heed the call and seek help. That will prolong the fun.
The dude from Blink 182, ol' Tommy boy also had some spine problems from having his guitar slung down to low.. He had to have surgery.. So boys, keep em guitars high.. Posture is an important thing in any profession..

The reality is that Phil is near 60, so it's sad he can't play, but he's hitting retirement years now, he needs to take it easy! ? I'm sure he could use a midi keyboard and drum some cool stuff on there.. ?
"The former Genesis star can't even hold his sticks after years of sitting in front of a drumkit. "

No wonder he's got back problems, it's more traditional to sit behind the kit. Drummers.

              Haha good observation Ralley

You're right Bob, this is odd. If this really is the case that he's damaged his spinal cord, it's really sad. But I'm sure Phil Collins can afford to go and see the best neurosurgeons anywhere in the world.
Hell, this is tragic, Phil Collins is one of my favourite drummers ☹. no one cannot forget that drums coming in on "In the Air tonight" ........and he's a bloody good singer too!! 8)
Yeah, he's one of my favourite artists. His farewell tour is so brilliant, specially the harmonizing on "True Colours"
