Heading away for a weekend with some friends to Clarens. Want to jam some fun sing-a-long songs on the acoustic.

Hit me up with a bunch of songs please ?

On another note: This is a noob question, but after almost a year, I'm still finding it too hard to play on my acoustic. I think it might be the gauge of the strings. I have 10s on my electric and they play like a dream. I don't know what I have on the acoustic, but the 3rd string still has the layer of copper of the thing metallic string. Would that make it 12s or 11s? Would it be an issue if I put 10s on my acoustic.

I really love playing on acoustic guitars, but its just too frustrating on those strings.
    Bread - Guitar Man
Bob Dylan - Blowing in the Wind
    John Denver - Country Roads

Erm, you probably dont want to ask me for songs, I doubt that our tastes are the same lol so I'll stop there.

With regards to strings, I think it's something you need o try out for yourself, different players like different gauges and brands. Since you don't even know what's on there at the moment it would be hard to give you any pointers, so I suggest getting a new set of 11's, try them out (which I see as the middle ground) and then giving us your feedback. String gauges make a big difference in the sound of an acoustic, you'll have to try out different ones to see which one works for you.

Just be careful to not jump too much without setting up your axe for the new gauge, or you could damage your neck methinks.

Over to the more knowledgeable folks!

Whatever you and your friends like. You'd be surprised what can work with one person and an acoustic guitar - I have played Oops! I Did It Again solo on acoustic and got away with it. I have played Gilbert and Sullivan at TJs, solo with just a guitar, and lived to tell the tale ?

Do 11s have a wound 3rd string? 12s usually do, I'm not sure about 11s.

If you put lighter strings on your acoustic then you will almost certainly need the truss rod tweaked a little because there will be less tension on the neck. The tone will change as well with the lighter strings. Wether it changes for the better or the worse is for you to decide.

Thanks for the link to Ultimate Guitar!

Maybe we should have stickies like that on this site as well? In the same vain. Stuff for camp fire songs, beginner songs, beginner solos, etc etc.

The gauge of those strings are really a headache. I can barely play barre chords on it and it can't be that my hands aren't use to. Such a great sounding acoustic... but I avoid playing it.

12s will be harder to play than 9s, but if you're struggling that much then maybe the action is way too high and the guitar needs a setup.
