What are you listening to right now...

What tune in your playlist/radio are you listening to currently? I'm digging Danzig so far.

Een

All things Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) for me at the moment. In particular his EP, Rock 'n Roll Singer, is enjoying repeat play. The album features 3 original MK tracks, as well as 3 covers by Bon Scott era AC/DC (Rock 'n' Roll Singer, You Ain't Got a Hold on Me, Bad Boy Boogie) and one John Denver cover (Around and Around). If I could play acoustic guitar and write lyrics half as good as MK, I would die a lucky man.

And for some contrast, The Minutemen - Double Nickles on the Dime.

Lethe

Amorphis- The beginning of times.

Wolf People - One By One from Dorney Reach

Point of No Return

X-rated Bob wrote Nick Lowe - Jesus of Cool

This the one that had the different name here in SA back in the old days?

Jack-Flash-Jr

The new Tom Waits album 'Bad As Me'... better than Real Gone and the guest list includes Keith Richards, Flea, Les Claypool and Marc Ribot.

I'd think it likely.

Ja, it's grand hey.

Just as I get absorbed into Folky Acoustic music, Judas calls ?

AWEsome album. Been looking forward to this one for a while.
Fave tracks for now: Hell broke Luce, Raised Right Men.

The man is a musical genius. But then I am a biased longtime fan.
Would love to see him live.

On the flipside: the new Wilco album's pretty good too.

Nick Lowe: Labour of Lust

I got interested in Lowe after seeing him on Elvis Costello's show. Also I started thinking back to his big 70s hit "Cruel To Be Kind" (I also started thinking of the hit he wrote for Dave Edmunds, "Girl's Talk", but it turned out Elvis Costello wrote that one).

This is effectively a Rockpile record. I wish the liner notes gave more details about who played what - there's a gem of a guitar solo on "Born Fighter".

As far as I can remember, It was Dave Edmunds and Billy Bremner (Not the Leeds United Captain) that played on those early Nick Lowe Albums, must have been one of them

Well yes... Bremner and Edmunds were the guitar players in Rockpile.

The sleeve notes tell me that Bremner and Edmunds played guitar. However this is simply not enough! I want to know who played which part on which song. They do note where Lowe played guitar.

I hate that as well. But good stuff for reminding me of Nick Lowe, Actually had the first couple of Albums way back then, and even the Rockpile Album. Haven't heard this since the mid 80's when I gave my sister all my LP's.

Actually used to follow quite a bit of the STIFF artists, Remember Wreckless Eric, Graham Parker and the Rumour?

Oh yes. Wasn't Ian Dury signed to Stiff as well?

Lowe was the in-house producer at Stiff for a while.

I've got Graham Parker's "Squeezing Out Sparks" somewhere.

Lowe also plays on one of my all time favourite albums - John Hiatt's Bring The Family.
